| Judul Artikel | AN ANALYSIS OF THE NEGATIVE POLITENESS STRATEGY ON THE CONCEPT OF FACE-THREATENING-ACTS (FTA)’s USED BY TWO CHARACTERS IN THE SECRET OF MOONACRE MOVIE |
| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui strategi kesopanan negatif dalam konsep Face-threatening-acts (FTA) yang disampaikan oleh dua tokoh dalam film “The Secret of Moonacre”. Cutting (2002:46) mengungkapkan bahwa strategi kesopanan negatif memperhatikan wajah negatif, dengan memberi jarak pada lawan berbicara, dan menghindar untuk mengganggu kenyamanan orang lain. Para penutur menggunakan strategi kesopanan negatif untuk menghindari pemaksaan atau mengganggu, dan untuk memberi para pendengar pilihan untuk menjawab atau tidak. Penulis menggunakan metode dekriptif kualitatif dalam melaksanakan penelitian ini. Oleh karena itu, penulis telah mengkategorikan dan menganalisis ucapan-ucapan kedua tokoh dalam film “The Secret of Moonacre” dalam jenis-jenis straetgi kesopanan negatif berdasarkan teori Brown dan Levinson; dan menganalisis konteks situasi yang menyebabkan para tokoh menggunakan strategi kesopanan negatif tertentu. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu penulis menemukan 26 tuturan yang disampaikan oleh kedua tokoh memuat 8 dari 10 strategi kesopanan negative, diantaranya ‘be conventionally indirect’, ‘question,hedge’, ‘be pessimistic’, ‘minimize the imposition’, ‘give deference’, ‘apologize’, ‘state the FTA as general rule’ dan ‘normalize’. Kemudian, penulis juga menemukan bahwa masing-masing strategi kesopanan negatif memiliki konteks situasi tertentu, dan konteks situasi tertentu juga hanya akan muncul pada strategi kesopanan negatif tertentu. Kesimpulannya, peneliti menemukan bahwa kedua tokoh, Sir Benjamin dan Maria Merryweather, tidak menggunakan semua tipe strategi kesopanan negatif Peneliti menganggap mereka hanya menggunakan 8 tipe strategi kesopanan negative. Kemudian, penulis juga menemukan bahwa konteks situasi tertentu menyebabkan para tokoh menggunakan straetgi kesopanan tertentu. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research is aimed to know the negative politeness strategy in the concept of face-threatening-acts (FTA)’s used by two characters in “The Secret of Moonacre” movie. Cutting (2002:46) said that negative politeness strategies pay attention to negative face, by demonstrating the distance between interlocutors, and avoiding intruding on each other’s territory. Speakers use negative politeness strategies to avoid imposing or presuming, and to give the hearer options. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method in conducting this research. Therefore, the researcher categorized and analyzed the utterances of two characters in “The Secret of Moonacre” movie into types of negative politeness strategies based on Brown and Levinson’s theory; and analyzed the situational context causing the characters used certain negative politeness strategies. As the result of this research, the researcher found 26 utterances uttered by two characters that contain 8 of 10 negative politeness strategies; they are ‘be conventionally indirect’, ‘question,hedge’, ‘be pessimistic’, ‘minimize the imposition’, ‘give deference’, ‘apologize’, ‘state the FTA as general rule’ and ‘normalize’. Then, the researcher also found that each of the negative politeness strategy has its certain situational context, and certain situational context will appear in certain negative politeness strategy. In conclusion, the researcher finds out that two characters, Sir Benjamin and Maria Merryweather, did not produce all types of the negative politeness strategies The researcher assumed that they just produced 8 types of negative politeness strategy. Then, the researcher also found that certain situational context caused the characters using certain negative politeness strategies. |
