| Judul Artikel | RAY BRADBURY’S CRITICISM ON CENSORSHIP IN AMERICA DURING 1945-1954 IN FAHRENHEIT 451 |
| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis cara Ray Bradbury mengkritik penyensoran Amerika antara 1945-1954 di novel Fahrenheit 451. Fenomena McCartyism di Amerika memunculkan gerakan penyensoran komunisme di beberapa objek seperti buku, televisi, radio dan surat kabar. Gerakan ini berhubungan dengan pengalaman pengarang dimana pengarang pernah menjadi korban penyensoran. Melalui novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury menunjukan kritik-kritiknya tentang penyensoran di buku dan televisi. Penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisa data utama: yaitu Fahrenheit 451 karya Ray Bradbury. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah ekspresif karena analisis berhubungan dengan latar belakang pengarang. Teori genetik strukturalisme oleh Lucient Goldmann yang menghubungkan elemen intrinsik dan ekstrinsik digunakan untuk meneliti data utama secara mendalam dalam bentuk deskripsi. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukan bahwa pengarang menggunakan elemen tokoh di novel untuk mengkritik penyensoran. Tokoh-tokoh yang digunakan adalah Guy Montag, Captain Beatty, professor Faber, a burnt lady, dan Mildred. Melalui Guy Montag, Bradbury menekankan Montag sebagai pemadam kebakaran yang merupakan pelaku penyensoran. Dia juga digunakan untuk menunjukan penyensoran yang terjadi di media televisi. Sedangkan melalui tokoh Captain Beatty, pengarang menggambarkan pemerintah yang juga melakukan penyensoran halus melalui persuasi. Disisi lain, Profesor Faber mengungkapkan alasan-alasan mengapa buku dibenci dan dilarang. Sedangkan a burnt lady menunjukan sebuah protes bahwa tindakan penyensoran merupakan suatu tindakan yang keji. Terakhir, tokoh Mildred digunakan untuk menggambarkan efek-efek program televisi yang telah tersensor yang sangat merusak bagi masyarakat pada umumnya dan bagi Mildred khususnya. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research is aimed to analyze the way Ray Bradbury criticize the American censorship during 1945-1954 in Fahrenheit 451. The phenomena McCarthyism in America spread the communism censorship actions in some objects like book, television, radio and newspaper. This action is related to the author Experience which has ever become the victim of censorship. Through novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury shows his critics about censorship on books and television. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to analyze the main data, Fahrenheit 451, novel by Ray Bradbury. The approach is expressive approach since the analysis is related to the author’s background. Lucien Goldmann’s theory namely genetic structuralism theory which relates the intrinsic elements and extrinsic one is used to examine the main data deeply in form of description. The result of the research shows that the author uses some characters in the novel to criticize the censorship. The characters are Guy Montag, Captain Beatty, professor Faber, a burnt lady, and Mildred. Through Guy Montag, Bradbury emphasizes Montag as fireman which is the executor of censor. He also used to show the censorship which happens in media television. Meanwhile, through character Captain Beatty, the author represents the government which also does censorship smoothly through persuasion. While, the professor Faber reveals the reason why books are hated and banned. Then a burnt lady is used to show the cruel of censorship action. The last is Mildred who is used by ray Bradbury to illustrate the effect of censored television program which is very destructive. |
