| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | ABSTRAK Penelitian berjudul Calli’s Selective Mutism as Depicted in Heather Gudenkauf’s The Weight of Silence. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa tanda-tanda, sebab dan akibat selective mutisme yang diderita oleh karakter utama dalam novel yaitu Calli Clark. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisa data. Data yang diperoleh dalam bentuk tertulis, yang dikumpulkan dari dialog dengan narasi di dalam novel yang berhubungan dengan tujuan penelitian. Peneliti menggunakan teori psikoanalitik dan PTSD untuk menganalisa tanda-tanda dan sebab dan akibat selektif mutisme yang diderita Calli. Hasil penelitian mengatakan bahwa Calli Clark mempunyai dua tanda-tanda selektiv mutisme yaitu sulit berkomunikasi dan sulit bersosialisasi. Penyebab Calli menderita selektif mutisme yaitu karena peristiwa traumatik yang dialaminya sewaktu ia berusia empat tahun dan penganiyaan fisik dan emosi yang dilakukan ayahnya terhadap dirinya. |

Inggris) | The research entitled Calli’s Selective Mutism as Depicted in Heather Gudenkauf’s The Weight of Silence is conducted to analyze symptoms, causes and effects of Selective mutism suffered by the main character in the novel, Calli Clark. In this research, descriptive qualitative method is applied to analyze the data. The obtained data which were in the written form, had been gathered from dialogues with the narration in the novel that had relationship with the purpose of the research. The researcher used psychoanalytic and post-traumatic stress disorder theory to analyze symptoms, causes and effects of selective mutism suffered by Calli. The result of the analysis shows that Calli Clark has two symptoms of selective mutism they are does not want to communicate and difficult to socialize. The causes of Calli’s selective mutism are because she experiences traumatic event, physical and emotional maltreatment by her father when she was four years old. |
