Program Studi Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris, Jurusan Ilmu Budaya, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Purwokerto. Tahun akademik 2013/2014. Penelitian yang berjudul The Heroes Deconstruction in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of The Rings ini menganalisis tentang dekonstruksi karakter pahlawan yang ada di novel The Lord of The Rings. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari bentuk-bentuk penggambaran karakter kepahlawanan yang berbeda dengan karakter pahlawan yang digambarkan didalam novel fantasi pada umumnya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Data primer yang digunakan dalam penelitian diperoleh dari novel The Lord of The Rings karya J.R.R. Tolkien, sedangkan data sekunder diambil dari sumber lain yang berkaitan dengan teori dekonstruksi. Untuk menganalisis data-data tersebut, teori dekonstruksi dari Jacques Derrida digunakan sebagai teorinya. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa ada tiga karakter didalam novel The Lord of The Rings yang didekonstruksi, mereka adalah Hobbit, Aragorn, dan Eowyn. Tiga karakter yang menjadi bahan analisis semuanya mendekonstruksi karakter pahlawan yang diidentikan sebagai ksatria atau prajurit yang mempunyai kemampuan berperang yang sangat tinggi, berparas tampan, mempunyai ukuran tubuh yang ideal, dan seseorang yang kuat. Bentuk dekonstruksinya dibagi menjadi 3 bagian. Pertama, The hobbit mendekonstruksi pahlawan dalam hal ukuran tubuh, kemampuan menggunakan senjata, dan pengetahuan tentang perang. Kedua, Aragorn mendekonstruksi pahlawan dalam hal kelas sosial dan kemampuan mempertahankan diri. Yang terakhir adalah seorang perempuan bernama Eowyn mendekonstruksi pahlawan dalam hal gender dan tugas seorang perempuan kerajaan. Kata kunci: Pahlawan, Dekonstruksi, Hobbit, Aragorn, Eowyn. |

English Language and Literature Study Program, Department of Humanities, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Jenderal Soedirman University, Purwokerto. Academic year 2013/2014. This research entitled The Heroes Deconstruction in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of The Rings, analyzes the deconstruction of hero character in The Lord of the Rings novel. The aim of this research is to find out the deconstruction of heroes character in the fantasy novel portrayed in The Lord of The Rings. Qualitative method is used in this research to analyze The Lord of The Rings novel uses as primary data, whereas the secondary data are taken from external sources relate with the theory of deconstruction. To analyze those data, this research use deconstruction theory by Jacques Derrida as a tool. The result of this research shows that there are three characters in The Lord of the Rings which are deconstructed. They are The Hobbits, a forest ranger named Aragorn, and a woman named Eowyn. The three characters deconstruct the heroes who are identical with knights or soldiers who have high ability to fight, have an ideal body size, handsome, and strong. The deconstruction is divided into three parts. First, the hobbits deconstruct the hero from the body size, ability to use weapons, and knowledge about the war. Second, the forest ranger named Aragorn deconstructs the hero which has social class and ability to defend himself. The last one is the woman named Eowyn as she deconstructs the hero because of her sex and her duty. Keywords: Heroes, Deconstruction, The Hobbit, Aragorn, Eowyn. |
