Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)Logam berat merupakan salah satu jenis polutan tanah yang sulit terdegradasi dan dapat mengganggu keseimbangan ekologis. Bakteri yang diisolasi dari lingkungan tercemar logam berat kemungkinan mempunyai toleransi yang tinggi terhadap logam Hg. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui genera bakteri asal lahan pasir besi yang mampu mereduksi logam berat merkuri (Hg) dan mengetahui kemampuan bakteri asal lahan pasir besi terpilih dalam mereduksi logam berat merkuri (Hg). Isolasi dan uji toleransi logam berat Hg dengan metode survey secara deskriptif, sedangkan percobaan kemampuan isolat bakteri dalam mereduksi logam berat Hg dilakukan secara eksperimental menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL). Hasil penelitian bakteri asal lahan pasir besi yang mampu mereduksi logam berat merkuri (Hg) didapatkan 4 isolat. Dua isolat (BTM 1 dan BTM 4) anggota genus Pseudomonas dan dua isolat (BTM 2 dan BTM 3) anggota genus Bacillus. Pseudomonas sp. isolat BTM 4 asal lahan pasir besi mampu mereduksi logam berat merkuri (Hg) sebesar 55,79 % pada konsentrasi Hg sebesar 1 ppm dan 10,04 % pada konsentrasi 7 ppm dalam waktu 96 jam. Isolat tersebut juga mampu menghasilkan eksopolisakarida (EPS) berkisar antara 0,0023-0,0082 gram.
Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)Heavy metal is one of soil pollutants which is difficult to be degraded and it can disrupt ecological balance. Bacteria isolated from heavy metal contaminated environment were possibly to have a high tolerance for Hg metal. The aims of this research were to know genera of iron sand soil bacteria which capable of reducing heavy metal mercury (Hg) and to know the ability of selected bacterium in reducing heavy metal mercury (Hg). Method used in isolation and tolerance test of the bacterium was survey by descriptive analysis, while assay capability of the bacterial isolate in reducing heavy metal mercury (Hg) was done experimentally using completely randomized design (CRD). The result of the research found 4 bacterial isolates from iron sand soil which were capable of reducing heavy metal mercury (Hg). They consisted of two isolates (BTM 1 and BTM 4) which belong to genus Pseudomonas and two isolates (BTM 2 dan BTM 3) which belong to genus Bacillus. Pseudomonas isolate BTM 4 was able to reduce heavy metal mercury (Hg) as much as 55,79% at 1 ppm concentration of Hg and 10,04% at 7 ppm concentration of Hg during 96 hours. This isolate was also capable of producing exopolysaccharide (EPS) as amount of 0,0023-0,0082 gr.
