Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)Penelitian yang berjudul “Georgiana’s Struggles against the Eighteenth Century Patriarchal Oppressions in Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire Novel by Amanda Foreman” menganalisis tentang: (1) Georgiana ditindas oleh peraturan patriarki dalam kehidupan rumah tangga dan sosialnya.
Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)The research entitled “Georgiana’s Struggles against the Eighteenth Century Patriarchal Oppressions in Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire Novel by Amanda Foreman” analyzes about: (1) Georgiana was oppressed by the eighteenth century patriarchal rules both in her domestic and social life. In the domestic life, her husband gave her bad treatments because he felt physically, economically, and socially stronger than her. Besides, the eighteenth century patriarchal rules gave a husband the freedom to treat his wife as he pleased oppressively and dishonorly. In the social life, Georgiana was oppressed by the patriarchal rules which barred a woman to hold official position to seat in the British Parliament because politics and power were regarded as the world of men. Furthermore, her archives which showed her participation as a successful political facilitator for the Whig party were destroyed by unknown someone to erase the women success’ trace in the history. Therefore, (2) Georgiana struggled to push further the limit of ‘the men’s world’ and ‘the women’s world’ that patriarchal rules segregated. She struggled to enter the wider world, the world which patriarchal rules regarded as ‘the men’s world’ identified with workplace, politics, and power such as in the region of: military, political arena, fashion, art, science, and leadership.
