| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Rumah Pemotongan Hewan (RPH) yang terletak di Desa Kemiriamba Kecamatan Jatibarang Kabupaten Brebes Propinsi Jawa Tengah, merupakan tempat penyembelihan hewan. Aktivitas dari pemotongan hewan mengakibatkan adanya limbah berupa limbah padat dan limbah cair. Limbah padat pada RPH adalah semua limbah yang berbentuk padat atau dalam fase padat (kotoran ternak, isi perut, serta serpihan daging dan tulang). Limbah cair pada RPH adalah semua limbah yang berbentuk cair atau dalam fase cairan (urin, air dari pencucian jeroan, dan pencucian alat-alat). Limbah RPH Jatibarang di buang langsung ke Sungai Sarni. Limbah yang langsung dibuang ke sungai memungkinkan terjadinya pencemaran yang akan berdampak pada kualitas air yaitu warna, pH, TSS, kandungan lemak, BOD5, ammonium, nitrogen, dan fosfor. Tujuan penelitian adalah mengkaji kondisi kualitas lingkungan fisika, kimia, dan biologi perairan Sungai Sarni yang menerima limpahan limbah cair RPH. Mengetahui besar beban maksimum Sungai Sarni yang menerima limpahan Limbah cair dari Industri RPH. Menganalisis persepsi masyarakat sekitar RPH tentang pembuangan limbah Industri RPH. Menganalisis hubungan antara Kualitas Air Sungai Sarni dan Persepsi Masyarakat sekitar RPH. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi, survey, kuesioner, wawancara, dan studi literatur. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode purposive sampling, metode storet, dan diskriptif kualitatif. Hasil analisis diketahui bahwa status mutu air Sungai Sarni dengan menggunakan Metode STORET termasuk kelas D, dengan kategori buruk atau tercemar berat. Hasil kuesioner dan wawancara persepsi masyarakat tentang pembuangan limbah cair RPH Jatibarang ke Sungai Sarni adalah 67,1% masyarakat menyatakan tidak aman dan 32,9% masyarakat menyatakan cukup aman apabila menggunakan air Sungai Sarni yang terkena limbah RPH untuk mencuci dan mandi. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | Jatibarang Slaughterhouse (RPH) in Kemiriamba Village, Jatibarang District, Brebes Regency, Central Java was built in 1976 on a 496 m2 land. The average number of animal slaughtered in this slaughterhouse is 10 per day, consisting of two cows or buffalos and eight goats or sheeps. Wastewater from animal slaughtering activities in this place is discharged directly to Sarni River located behind it, and the liquid waste has caused river pollution. This research aims at analyzing the environmental quality physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of Sarni River particularly parts that have been polluted by wastewater from slaughtering activities in Jatibarang slaughterhouse, measure the maximum load of Sarni River; know the perspectives of the residents who live around the area on the sewage, and analyse find out the correlation between Sarni River water quality and the perspectives of the residents. The data collecting techniques were survey and purposive sampling towards Sarni River water quality at five different stations. It was done four times within two week time-interval. Sampling on liquid waste from Jatibarang slaughterhouse was conducted once at the sewer/drain. The data intended to understand the local people’s perspectives were collected through semi-open questionnaire distributed to 79 respondents who live in Kemiriamba Village, around Jatibarang slaughterhouse. Based on the results of the analysis, it is found that based on physical, chemical, and biological characteristics, the environmental quality of parts of Sarni River in Kemiriamba Village where liquid waste flows from Jatibarang slaughterhouse and Station I does not meet the quality standard for Class II water quality set in Government regulation Nr. 82 Year 2001, except in terms of water temperature and pH. From the result of analysis on water quality status using Storet method, the water of Sarni River is leveled at Class D, under the category of bad or severely polluted. Real and daily pollution load for all parameter of Jatibarang slaughterhouse sewage is under the maximum permitted load per product unit and maximum daily pollution load allowed in accordance with Provincial Regulations in Central Java Nr. 5 Year 2012 about Amendment on Provincial Regulation of Central Java Nr. 10 Year 2004 about Wastewater Quality Standards. Station II is the nearest station to the slaughterhouse. The results of analysis on people’s perspectives toward liquid waste disposal of Jatibarang slaughterhouse to Sarni River show that 67.1% of the residents felt insecured when they use water from Sarni River which has been polluted with liquid waste from the slaughterhouse while 32.9% felt that it was quite safe to use water from Sarni River for washing and bathing. Local people use Sarni River for washing and bathing in Station I, IV, and V. There is correlation among smell, color, and people’s perception around Jatibarang slaughterhouse based on Phi value which is greater than r value from the table. Meanwhile, there is no correlation between the muddiness and the perspectives of the residents because Phi value is smaller than r value in the table. Based on the above research findings, some suggestions and recommendations are proposed: (1) Monitoring of the water quality of Sarni River as an early warning for further impact of liquid waste from Jatibarang slaughterhouse should be implemented; (2) Good management of liquid waste and program for making IPAL should be conducted so that the liquid waste from the slaughterhouse does not pollute its surroundings; (3) Water quality from Sami River has been severely polluted due to liquid waste from Jatibarang slaughterhouse, so there should be cooperative work on environmental management system with the local residents through river cleansing program, especially that related with periodical water source management; and (4) further research on Station I located near the upstream of the river which is free from other sewage must be conducted. |
