| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini berjudul “Racism of White Australian toward Aboriginal Half-caste as depicted in Xavier Herbert’s Capricornia”. Penelitian ini menggunakan novel Capricornia karya Xavier Herbert’s sebagai objek penelitian yang menceritakan tentang rasis orang kulit putih Australia terhadap suku asli Aborigin Half-Caste. Tujuan dari penelitian adalah untuk menemukan rasis tersebut di refleksikan pada Capricornia karya Xavier Herbert’s. Dalam penelitian ini, metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif-kualitatif untuk menganalisis data-data dalam novel dengan menggunakan kerangka teori rasis dan unsur intrinsik novel. Ada tiga langkah dalam menganalisis data untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Tahapan pertama peneliti memilih novel Capricornia sebagai objek penelitian. Tahapan kedua adalah menentukan unsur- unsur intrinsik untuk menggambarkan dan mengungkap rasis dalam novel ini. Tahapan terakir adalah menganalisis data dan menghubungkannya dengan teori rasis dari Spencer dan unsur intrinsik novel. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada banyak konflik rasisme antara karakter. Penyebab rasisme muncul karena tingkat individu dan sosial. Selain itu, rasisme juga ditemukan memiliki efek rasisme terhadap setengah kasta seperti menghindari, diskriminasi, serangan fisik, dan pemusnahan. Setengah kasta adalah seseorang keturunan ras campuran. Mereka adalah kelompok minoritas dan mereka sering mendapatkan efek-efek dari kulit putih. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | The research is entitled “Racism of White Australian toward Aboriginal Half-caste as depicted in Xavier Herbert’s Capricornia”. This research uses a novel Capricornia written by Xavier Harbert’s as the research object which generally tells about the racism white Australian toward aboriginal Half-caste. The purpose of this research is to find out racism is reflected in Xavier Herbert’s Capricornia. In this research, descriptive-qualitative method is applied to analyze the data source in the novel that is analyzed through the framework of racism theory and intrinsic element of novel. There are three steps in analyzing the data to get the answer of the research questions. The first step was started by selecting the Capricornia novel as the object of the research. The second step was determining the intrinsic elements to describe and reveal racism in this novel. The last step was analyzing the data by connecting them with Spencer racism theory and intrinsic of elements of novel. The result of this study shows that there are many racism conflicts among the characters. The cause of racism arises because of individual and societal level. Besides, the racism is also found has effects of racism toward Half-caste such as avoidance, discrimination, physical attack, and extermination. Half-castes are someone of mixed racial descent. They are minority group and they often get those effects from whites. |
