Program Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris, Jurusan Ilmu Budaya, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Politik, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman Purwokerto, Tahun Akademik 2012/2013. Skripsi ini mengangkat kajian eksploratif tentang metode dan pendekatan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris kelas 5 Palm Kids Primary School sebagai sekolah standar Nasional-Plus. Tujuan dari kajian eksploratif ini adalah menemukan metode dan pendekatan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang diterapkan di Palm Kids Primary School sebagai sekolah standar Nasional-Plus. Penelitian ini menganalisa tentang metode dan pendekatan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris berdasarkan teori dari Patel dan Praveen. Terdapat lima metode dan dua pendekatan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, metode penerjemahan (translation), metode langsung (direct), metode membaca, metode dwi-bahasa, metode situasi, pendekatan struktur, dan pendekatan komunikatif. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan dari pengamatan di kelas, wawancara guru, dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan analisis data, peneliti menemukan bahwa guru membagi kegiatan belajar mengajar menjadi tiga tahap; pra-mengajar, proses belajar mengajar, dan diskusi atau penilaian. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh, guru tersebut menerapkan pendekatan pada pra-mengajar dan menerapkan metode pembelajaran pada saat proses belajar mengajar. Pada saat mengajar kompetensi membaca, guru menerapakan pendekatan komunikatif dengan metode membaca dan langsung. Lalu pada saat mengajar kompetensi dasar menulis, guru menerapkan pendekatan struktur dengan metode langsung dan dwi-bahasa. Dalam mengajar kompetensi dasar mendengar, guru tersebut menerapkan pendekatan komunikatif dengan metode langsung, membaca, dan dwi-bahasa. Dalam mengajar kompetensi dasar berbicara, guru mengaplikasikan pendekatan komunikatif dengan metode langsung dan membaca. Lalu, dalam mengajar komponen tata bahasa, guru menerapkan pendekatan struktur dengan metode langsung dan dwi-bahasa. Kemudian, dalam mengajar komponen kosakata, guru tersebut menerapkan pendekatan struktur dan metode dwi-bahasa. |

This paper presents an explorative study of the English teaching methods and approaches used on the fifth grade of Palm Kids Primary School Purwokerto as National-Plus School. The purpose of this explorative study is to discover the English teaching methods and approaches used on the fifth grade of Palm Kids Primary School as National Plus School. This research analyzed the English teaching methods and approaches based on Patel and Praveen’s theory. There are five methods and two approaches in English teaching, grammar-translation method, direct method, reading method, bilingual method, situation method, and then structural approach and communicative approach. The data of this were taken from classroom observation, in-depth interview with the teacher, and the documentation. From the data analysis, the researcher discovered that the teacher divided teaching and learning activity into three steps; pre-teaching, teaching and learning process, and assessment or discussion. As the result, he applied teaching approach on the pre-teaching and he implemented teaching method on teaching and learning process. On the teaching reading, he applied communicative approach, reading and direct method. On the teaching writing, he used structural approach, bilingual method and direct method. On the teaching listening, the teacher used communicative approach, direct method, reading method, and bilingual method. On the teaching speaking, he applied the communicative approach, direct method, and reading method. On the teaching grammar, he used structural approach, bilingual method, and direct method.
