| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Salah satu teknologi yang bisa digunakan untuk mengatasi kesadahan air adalah filtrasi menggunakan membran. Bahan baku pembuatan membran adalah polimer diantaranya selulosa. Rumput laut adalah tumbuhan yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan dasar pembuatan nata de seaweed. Nata de seaweed dibentuk melalui proses fermentasi selama 8 hari dengan bantuan Acetobacter xylinum. Karakteristik membran ditentukkan berdasarkan nilai massa jenis, fluks, rejeksi dan sifat mekaniknya. Membran yang dihasilkan mempunyai massa jenis, fluks, rejeksi, dan kekuatan tarik sebesar 1,0832 g/cm3, 8,784 L/m2.jam, 52,76%, dan 110,9625 Mpa. Presentase penurunan kesadahan air CaCO3 dan MgCO3 sebesar 27% dan 12,78%.

Seaweeds were plants that contain cellulose. Sargassum sp was seaweed belong to the brown algae that can be used as a base material of producing nata de seaweed. Nata de seaweed was formed through a process of fermentation for 8 days with the help of Acetobacter xylinum. The Characteristics of the membrane were determined by the value of density, flux, rejection, and mechanical characteristic of its. The membrane were resulted had a density, flux, rejection, and tensile strength of 1.0832 g/cm3, 8.784 L/m2.hour, 52.76%, and 110.9625 MPa. The decrease percentage of water hardness CaCO3 and MgCO3 by 27% and 12.78%.
