Judul ArtikelThe Influence of Self-efficacy and Perceived Social Support on Students’ Thesis Writing Procrastination (A Multiple Linear Regression Analysis of the 2022 Cohort of English Education Students at Jenderal Soedirman University)
Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)This study investigated the effects of self-efficacy and perceived social support on thesis writing procrastination among students of the 2022 cohort of the English Language Education Study Program at Jenderal Soedirman University. Procrastination in thesis writing is a common issue among final-year students and may contribute to delayed graduation. Previous studies suggest that this behavior is influenced by both personal factors, such as self-efficacy, and environmental factors, such as perceived social support. However, evidence within the context of EFL thesis writing remains limited. This study aimed to identify the levels of self-efficacy, perceived social support, and thesis writing procrastination, as well as to examine the individual and combined effects of self-efficacy and perceived social support on procrastination. This study employed a quantitative approach involving 72 respondents selected from a total population of 80 students. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression. The findings revealed that the levels of self-efficacy (mean = 36.28), perceived social support (mean = 42.53), and thesis writing procrastination (mean = 40.28) were all in the moderate to high category. Furthermore, regression analysis showed that self-efficacy and perceived social support significantly and negatively predicted thesis writing procrastination, both individually and simultaneously. Together, the two variables explained 22.1% of the variance in procrastination. Additional findings from open-ended responses identified laziness, social media use, part-time work, and supervisory difficulties as important contributing factors. Overall, strengthening both internal and external support systems may help reduce procrastination in thesis writing.
