Judul ArtikelPENGARUH UMUR SIMPAN DAN PRIMING TERHADAP MUTU FISIOLOGIS BENIH DAN PERTUMBUHAN VEGETATIF WORTEL (Daucus carota L.)
Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)Carrots are a horticultural commodity with significant industrial potential due to their high content of essential vitamins and minerals. However, domestic production has struggled to consistently meet demand, primarily due to the decline in physiological seed quality during storage. This necessitates the use of seed priming techniques to reactivate seed metabolic processes prior to germination. This study aimed to assess the impact of priming on the physiological quality of carrot seeds and their vegetative growth, as well as to determine the optimal priming treatment for each storage duration to enhance seed quality and vegetative growth. The research was conducted in two phases: laboratory and field experiments. The variables observed included germination rate, growth speed, vigour index, normal seedling dry weight, seedling growth rate, percentage of seedling emergence, seedling height, leaf number, root length, fresh weight, dry weight, and environmental factors affecting carrot seedling cultivation. An interaction between storage duration and priming was observed across all variables. The treatment involving PEG 10% priming for 8 hours was identified as the most effective across all seed storage durations. Specifically, PEG 10% priming for 8 hours at storage durations of 12 and 18 months yielded superior results, with germination rates of 71,25% and 67,00%, growth speeds of 9,17%/day and 9,23%/day, vigour index of 49,75% and 53,75%, normal seedling dry weight of 0,047 g, seedling growth rates of 0,70 g/NS and 0,66 g/NS, 100% seedling emergence, and plant height and leaf number measured at 14 DAP to 35 DAP, with root lengths of 8.06 cm and 12.43 cm.
