Indonesia) | Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pemaknaan mahasiswa Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik Universitas Jenderal Soedirman terhadap fenomena tone deaf dalam konteks sosial-politik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, pendekatan fenomenologi dengan Teori Interaksi Simbolik dan Teori Spiral of Silence sebagai lensa analisis pendukung. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam terhadap tujuh informan yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive dan snowball sampling, terdiri atas mahasiswa aktivis dan nonaktivis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tone deaf tidak dimaknai mahasiswa FISIP Unsoed sebagai ketidakpedulian atau apatisme, melainkan sebagai kondisi ketika seseorang mengetahui suatu isu tetapi responsnya dipandang tidak sesuai dengan situasi yang berlangsung. Pemaknaan ini dipengaruhi oleh latar belakang organisasi, tekanan akademik, kondisi ekonomi, ketidakpastian karier, dinamika sosial-politik, serta perkembangan media digital yang membentuk cara mahasiswa mengekspresikan kepeduliannya. Esensinya, tone deaf merupakan pengalaman menyeimbangkan tuntutan untuk bersikap kritis dengan kebutuhan pribadi di tengah tekanan sosial-politik dan budaya digital, sehingga dipahami sebagai makna sosial yang dinamis dan terus dinegosiasikan mahasiswa melalui interaksi dan interpretasi atas realitasnya. |

Inggris) | This research aims to analyze the interpretation of the tone deaf phenomenon in a socio-political context among students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. This research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, utilizing Symbolic Interactionism Theory and the Spiral of Silence Theory as supporting analytical lenses. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with seven informants selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques, consisting of activist and non-activist students. The results of the study indicate that tone deaf is not interpreted by FISIP Unsoed students as indifference or apathy, but rather as a condition where an individual is aware of an issue yet their response is perceived as inconsistent with the ongoing situation. This interpretation is influenced by organizational background, academic pressure, economic conditions, career uncertainty, socio-political dynamics, and the development of digital media that shape how students express their concern. In essence, tone deaf represents the experience of balancing the demand to remain critical with personal needs amidst socio-political pressure and digital culture, thus being understood as a dynamic social meaning continuously negotiated by students through interaction and interpretation of their reality. |
