Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)ABSTRACT. The broiler industry faces rising input costs and increasing demands for production efficiency, making housing system selection a key factor in technical and economic performance. This study analyzed the differences in production performance and cost of production (COP) under open, semi-closed, and closed house systems in commercial contract farming in the humid tropical region of West Java. Secondary data from 33 production cycles (n = 11 periods per system) collected in 2024 were analyzed, involving 112 farms classified into 34 closed-house farms, 52 semi-closed house farms, and 26 open house farms. Data were analyzed using Welch’s ANOVA, Games–Howell post hoc test, and Spearman’s correlation. Housing system significantly affected FCR, performance index (PI), and COP but not slaughter age. The closed house system produced the highest PI, whereas the semi-closed house system produced the lowest COP. FCR showed a very strong positive correlation with COP, whereas ADG and PI were significantly negatively correlated with each other. In conclusion, housing systems significantly influence both production efficiency and costs in broiler farming. Closed-house and semi-closed house systems achieved superior production performance compared to open-house systems; however, the most favorable COP was the lowest in the semi-closed house system. FCR is the primary determinant of production cost, whereas improvements in ADG and PI contribute to reducing COP.
