| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan konsistensi ideologi Partai Republik (GOP) dari era awal kelahirannya hingga periode pertama kepemimpinan Donald Trump serta bagaimana konsistensi ideologi ini menjadi faktor utama pendorong adopsi kebijakan proteksionisme pada era Trump. Secara historis, kebijakan ekonomi GOP sering dianggap mengalami perubahan radikal dari proteksionisme era Lincoln menuju globalisme pasar bebas era Reagan, hingga kembali ke nasionalisme populis era Trump. Fenomena ini penting diteliti untuk membuktikan bahwa perubahan tersebut bukanlah pergeseran ideologi, melainkan adaptasi strategi ekonomi terhadap dinamika global. Dengan menggunakan kerangka Political Trilemma of the World Economy dari Dani Rodrik, penelitian ini membedah bagaimana Trump melakukan reposisi prioritas nasional untuk memulihkan kedaulatan nasional dan politik demokratis yang sempat terabaikan akibat integrasi ekonomi global yang terlalu dalam. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dan teknik process tracing untuk melacak kesinambungan konsistensi ideologi dan transformasi kebijakan ekonomi Partai Republik (GOP). Penelitian ini menyimpulkan dua hal utama. Pertama, ideologi Partai Republik (GOP) menunjukkan konsistensi yang utuh pada prinsip nasionalisme ekonomi, era pasar bebas Reagan-Bush sejatinya hanyalah adaptasi taktis, sementara era Trump merupakan reaktivasi dari akar asli GOP pada abad ke-19. Kedua, konsistensi ideologi ini terbukti menjadi faktor pendorong utama dalam adopsi kebijakan proteksionis pada era Trump. Hal ini termanifestasi secara nyata melalui kebijakan proteksionis seperti pembatalan Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), penerapan tarif impor, dan renegosiasi North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) menjadi United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. |

Inggris) | This study aims to describe the ideological consistency of the Republican Party (GOP) from its inception to the first term of Donald Trump's presidency and how this ideological consistency became a major factor driving the adoption of protectionist policies during the Trump era. Historically, the GOP's economic policies are often considered to have undergone a radical shift from Lincoln-era protectionism to Reagan-era free-market globalism, and then back to Trump-era populist nationalism. This phenomenon is important to examine to prove that the change was not an ideological shift, but rather an adaptation of economic strategy to global dynamics. Using Dani Rodrik's Political Trilemma of the World Economy framework, this study examines how Trump repositioned national priorities to restore national sovereignty and democratic politics that had been neglected due to excessively deep global economic integration. This study uses qualitative methods and process tracing techniques to trace the continuity of ideological consistency and the transformation of the Republican Party's economic policies. This study concludes two main points. First, the Republican Party's (GOP) ideology demonstrates complete consistency in the principle of economic nationalism; the Reagan-Bush free-market era was merely a tactical adaptation, while the Trump era represents a reactivation of the GOP's original 19th-century roots. Second, this ideological consistency has proven to be a major driving factor in the adoption of protectionist policies during the Trump era. This is clearly manifested through protectionist policies such as the cancellation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the imposition of import tariffs, and the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) into the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. |
