| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | Background : Scabies remains a health problem in crowded settings such as Islamic boarding schools. Poor personal hygiene is suspected to increase transmission and aggravate scabies severity. Objective : To determine the relationship between personal hygiene with severity of scabies at Al-Hikmah 1 Islamic Boarding School Sirampog Brebes. Methods : An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted. The sample consisted of 154 santri at Al-Hikmah 1 Islamic Boarding School, Sirampog, Brebes (junior and senior high school levels), aged 12–18 years, who had scabies, and they were selected using total sampling. Data were collected using a personal hygiene questionnaire, observations of housing density, and medical history taking and physical examinations by a doctor to assess the severity of scabies (lesions, itching, sleep disturbance, and secondary infection). The relationship between personal hygiene and scabies severity was analyzed using the Spearman test (p < 0.05). Results : The prevalence of scabies among the santri population was 154 respondents (24.3%). The highest number of cases occurs in the 12–14-year age group, with 121 respondents (78.6%), and in males, with 120 respondents (77.9%). Personal hygiene among patients is mostly good, with 87 respondents (56.5%), compared to poor hygiene, with 67 respondents (43.5%). The severity of scabies is mostly in the moderate category, with 68 respondents (44.2%), followed by severe, with 66 respondents (42.9%), and mild, with 20 respondents (13.0%). The Spearman correlation test shows a significant and strong negative relationship (r = −0.591; p < 0.001). Conclusion : There is a significant and strong negative association between personal hygiene and scabies severity in Al-Hikmah 1 Islamic Boarding School Sirampog Brebes, meaning that better personal hygiene is associated with lower scabies severity. |
