Penelitian ini menerapkan kerangka kerja ekokritik Garrard yang juga dibantu dengan teori-teori lain, seperti konsep simbiosis hubungan manusia dengan alam dari Cheam and Nishiguchi serta unsur intrinsik menurut Kennedy dan Gioia. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan yang dinamis antara manusia dan alam pada masing-masing karakter yang dipilih dalam novel. Hubungan tersebut terbagi dalam tiga waktu dan perubahan era dari era kolonial, abad ke-19, dan masa kini yang ditunjukkan dalam tiga aspek, yaitu: pemanfaatan alam sebagai sarana keberlangsungan hidup manusia, alam sebagai sumber inspirasi dan tempat menyendiri, serta alam sebagai medium yang menyimpan kenangan masa lalu dan memberikan tuntunan. |

This research applied the Garrard’s ecocriticism framework and was also assisted with other theories, such as Cheam and Nishiguchi’s concept of human-nature symbiosis and the intrinsic elements proposed by Kennedy and Gioia. The results of this study show that there is a dynamic relationship between humans and nature in each of the characters chosen in the novel. The relationship is divided into three times and changes in eras from the colonial era, the 19th century, and the present day which are shown in three aspects, namely: the use of nature as a means of human survival, nature as a source of inspiration and solitude, and nature as a medium that preserves memories of the past and guidance. |
