| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | Chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is an important horticultural commodity in Indonesia that is vulnerable to productivity decline due to abiotic stresses such as high temperature and drought. This study aimed to evaluate the genetic variation of M1 chili pepper plants derived from gamma ray irradiation (150 Gy, 300 Gy, and 450 Gy) under in vitro conditions with high-temperature stress (33-35°C) and drought stress (PEG 5%), as well as to identify potential stress-tolerant genotypes. The study used the local Lotanbar variety and three control varieties in an Augmented Design. The results showed that high-temperature and high-dose gamma radiation treatments reduced germination rate, growth rate, and the percentage of normal surviving plants, with the highest LD50 value recorded at 749.62 Gy (normal temperature without PEG) and the lowest at 196.07 Gy (high temperature with PEG). Several irradiated lines exhibited better growth performance than the controls, along with morphological variation, indicating the potential of gamma ray-induced mutation combined with in vitro selection to produce chili pepper genotypes adaptive to high temperature and drought stress. Keywords: rice, drought, watering intervals, soil amelioran. |
