Judul ArtikelAnalysis of Factors Influencing Family Behaviors In Preventing Rheumatoid Arthritis In The Elderly In Banjarsari Kulon Village Sumbang District
Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)Background: Elderly people naturally experience a decline in physiological and cognitive function and making them vulnerable to various health issues, such as rheumatoid arthritis. Family support enables the elderly to prevent this disease. This study aimed to determine the relationship between family members' characteristics, predisposing factors, and preventive behavior towards rheumatoid arthritis.
Methods: This type of research used a cross-sectional approach with data collection methods obtained through questionnaires aimed at 90 respondents in Banjarsari Kulon Village, Sumbang District. Sampling was Cluster random sampling. Data analysis was used Fisher's exact test.
Results: The respondents' characteristics were dominated by women (70%), were in the late adulthood age group (37,8%), and the educational level was high school (35.6%). Respondents who had a history of rheumatoid arthritis were 38.9%. Fisher’s exact test showed non-significant results for variables: age (p=0.531), sex (p=0.159), educational level (p=0.461), and family history (p=0.734). Most respondents have a positive behavior category (80%), with Fisher’s exact test on knowledge, attitude, and belief variables having a p-value=0.000, which means there is a significant relationship with preventive behavior.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between family members' knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs in preventing rheumatoid arthritis in the elderly.
