| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis dari kohesi gramatikal dan kohesi leksikal dan juga koherensi dalam artikel Editorial di The Jakarta Post edisi 31 October 2012 dan juga untuk mencari koherensi yang dibangun dalam artikel Editorial di The Jakarta Post edisi 31 October 2012. Dalam pengambilan sample, peneliti menggunakan total sampling. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan descriptive kualitatif untuk menggambarkan jenis kohesi gramatikal dan leksikal; dan menjabarkan koherensi dalam tiap-tiap element pada tiap kohesi. Berdasarkan teori Halliday dan Hassan (1976) hampir semua tipe kohesi ditemukan di editorial ini yaitu referensi, ellipsis, konjungsi, repetisi, sinonim, super-ordinate dan kolokasi. Semua jenis referensi ditemukan di editorial The Jakarta Post, satu jenis elipsis yang ditemukan adalah ellipsis klausal sedangkan jenis konjungsi yang ditemukan adalah konjungsi additive, adversative and konjungsi temporal, jenis kohesi subtitusi tidak ditemukan didalam editorial ini. Untuk tipe yang kedua dari kohesi yaitu kohesi leksikal, peneliti menemukan tipe-tipe kohesi seperti repetisi, sinonim dan super-ordinate pada tipe reiterasi dan juga menemukan tipe kolokasi didalam artikel editorial ini. Dari hasil analisis, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa teks editorial ini memiliki kohesi dan koherensi yang baik sehingga dapat dikatakan bahwa teks ini termasuk jenis teks yang baik. |

Inggris) | The aims of this research are to find out the kinds of grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion and also coherence in editorial of The Jakarta Post article in October 31th, 2012 edition and also to find out the coherence in editorial of The Jakarta Post article in October 31th, 2012 edition. The researcher uses total sampling to choose the sample. The method of this research belongs to qualitative descriptive to describe grammatical and lexical cohesion. Almost all types of cohesion devices proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1976) found in the editorial of The Jakarta Post: Milking Cash Cows. All kinds of references are found in the editorial of The Jakarta Post: Milking Cash Cows. One kind of ellipsis is found that is clausal ellipsis. The kinds of conjunction used in the article are additive, adversative and temporal conjunction. Substitution is not found in the editorial of The Jakarta Post: Milking Cash Cows. For the second type of cohesion devices, lexical cohesion devices, the researcher found only repetition, synonym and superordinate as part of reiteration found in the editorial of The Jakarta Post: Milking Cash Cows. The researcher also found the use of collocation in the article. The researcher can conclude that the editorial’s article Milking Cash Cows has a good text since cohesion and coherence are appropriately used to make one meaningful text. |
