| Judul Artikel | Daily Sunbathing Behavior of Sunda Velvet Dragonfly (Euphaea variegata) in the Baturraden Waterfall Ecosystems |
| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Capung Beludru Sunda (Euphaea variegata) adalah anggota dari family Euphaeidae, umumnya berada di dekat air terjun di ekosistem aliran air yang jernih yang dicirikan oleh vegetasi yang lebat maupun agak terbuka. Perilaku berjemur capung berkontribusi pada termoregulasi, terutama di lingkungan dengan perubahan iklim mikro. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi ciri-ciri habitat berjemur, populasi individu yang berjemur, pola perilaku berjemur harian, dan durasi berjemur E. variegata di ekosistem Curug Telu, Curug Orak Arik, dan Curug Ceheng. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dan metode pengamatan perilaku dengan pendekatan focal sampling. Pengukuran parameter lingkungan meliputi suhu udara, kelembaban udara, dan intensitas cahaya. Analisis MANOVA digunakan untuk menguji pengaruh kondisi lingkungan terhadap durasi berjemur, serta jumlah capung yang berjemur dengan signifikansi (p<0,05). Dilanjutkan dengan pengujian korelasi berganda untuk melihat seberapa kuat hubungan antara beberapa variabel. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) digunakan untuk menganalisis komponen utama yang terbesar dalam data faktor lingkungan. Variabel lingkungan, termasuk suhu udara, kelembaban udara, dan intensitas cahaya, secara signifikan mempengaruhi durasi berjemur dan jumlah individu E. variegata. Berdasarkan hasil korelasi berganda pada varibel tersebut bahwa variabel lingkungan memiliki hubungan yang sangat kuat dengan durasi berjemur dan jumlah individu E. variegata. Durasi berjemur maksimum terjadi ketika rentang suhu berkisar (25.0–28.0°C), dan intensitas cahaya (3699–41811 lx), dengan rata-rata durasi berjemur tertinggi selama 10 menit 7 detik, dan durasi tersingkat selama 2 menit 11 detik, namun pada sore hari baik jumlah capung maupun durasi berjemur berkurang karena kelembaban yang tinggi dan curah hujan yang berulang selama pengamatan. Perilaku E. variegata saat berjemur terdiri dari membersihkan diri, meregangkan sayap, bertengger obelisk, pertahanan wilayah, memangsa serangga, dan kopulasi. Perilaku yang paling banyak dilakukan E. variegata ketika berjemur adalah perilaku membersihkan diri, meregangkan sayap dan bertengger obelisk pada ketiga lokasi penelitian. Sedangkan perilaku paling sedikit adalah perilaku kopulasi. Ratarata kelimpahan E. variegata tertinggi ditemukan di curug Orak Arik, yaitu sebanyak 14 individu, dan kelimpahan terendah ditemukan di curug Telu dengan jumlah individu sebanyak 11 individu. Penelitian ini menjelaskan kemampuan adaptasi termoregulasi E. variegata terhadap variabel lingkungan. Penelitian tambahan selama musim kemarau diperlukan untuk memahami variasi perilaku berjemur di beberapa situasi iklim. Inggris) | The Sunda Velvet Dragonfly (Euphaea variegata) is a member of the Euphaeidae family, commonly found near waterfalls in clear water ecosystems characterized by dense or somewhat open vegetation. Sunbathing behavior contributes to hermoregulation, especially in environments with microclimate changes. This study aims to identify the characteristics of sunbathing habitats, sunbathing populations, daily sunbathing behavior patterns, and sunbathing duration of E. variegata at the Telu waterfall, Orak Arik waterfall, and Ceheng waterfall ecosystems. This study used purposive sampling method and behavioral observation with a focal sampling method. Environmental parameters measured included air temperature, humidity, and light intensity. MANOVA analysis was used to test the effect of environmental conditions on sunbathing duration and the number of dragonflies sunbathing with significance (p<0.05). This was followed by multiple correlation testing to determine the strength of the relationship between several variables. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used to analyze the main components in the environmental factor data. Environmental variables, including air temperature, air humidity, and light intensity, significantly affect the duration of sunbathing and the number of E. variegata individuals. Based on the results of multiple correlations on these variables, environmental variables have a very strong relationship with the duration of sunbathing and the number of E. variegata individuals. Maximum sunbathing duration occurred when the temperature range was between 25.0–28.0°C and light intensity was between 3699–41811 lx, with the highest average sunbathing duration of 10 minutes 7 seconds and the shortest duration of 2 minutes 11 seconds. However, in the evening, both the number of dragonflies and sunbathing duration decreased due to high air humidity and repeated rainfall during the observation period. The behavior of E. variegata during sunbathing includes self-cleaning (grooming), wing stretching, perching obelisks, territorial defense, predation, and mating. The most common behaviors exhibited by E. variegata during sunbathing were self-cleaning (grooming), wing stretching, and perching on obelisks at all three sites. The least common behavior was mating. The highest average abundance of E. variegata was found at Orak Arik waterfall, with 14 individuals, and the lowest abundance was found at Telu waterfall, with 11 individuals. This study explains the thermoregulatory adaptation ability of E. variegata to environmental variables. Additional research during the dry season is needed to understand variations in sunbathing behavior under different climatic conditions.
