judul. Penelitian ini berjudul “Efektivitas Sistem Mixed cropping Red napierGamal Terhadap Produksi Segar dan Bahan Kering, serta Kandungan Bahan Organik Red napier Pada Berbagai Umur Panen”. Latar Belakang. Fluktuasi produksi hijauan menjadi permasalahan utama bagi pengembangan usaha peternakan. Masalah alih fungsi lahan menyebabkan keterbatasan areal penanaman hijauan yang berdampak pada penurunan produksi rumput. Sistem tanam mixed cropping merupakan pola penanaman menggabungkan antara rumput Red napier (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Red) dan legum Gamal (Gliricidia sepium). Gamal dapat menyediakan kebutuhan nitrogen melalui proses fiksasi untuk mendukung pertumbuhan vegetatif rumput, meningkatkan kesuburan tanah, dan efisiensi penggunaan lahan dengan memproduksi lebih dari satu hasil tanam. Peningkatan produktivitas hijauan dipengaruhi pertambahan umur panen. Meningkatnya umur panen akan menghasilkan peningkatan total biomassa secara optimal. Materi dan Metode. Metode penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) berbasis Split Plot Design pola faktorial 2 x 3 dengan 4 kelompok sehingga terdapat 24 unit percobaan. Perlakuan faktor yang pertama (main plot) yaitu sistem tanam monocropping (T1) dan sistem tanam mixed cropping (T2). Perlakuan faktor kedua yaitu umur panen (U) 42 ; 56; 70 hari setelah tanam (HST). Hasil. Penerapan sistem mixed cropping berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) menunjukan hasil yang lebih unggul sebesar 18kg/2,8m2 dibandingkan sistem monocropping sebesar 13,01 kg/2,8m2.Perlakuan umur panen berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap produksi segar Red napier. Rata rata produksi segar tertinggi diperoleh pada umur 70 HST sebesar 63,96 ton/ha/panen. Perlakuan sistem tanam campuran berpengaruh signifikan terhadap produksi BK sebesar 9,93 ton/ha/panen . Perlakuan taraf umur panen 42,56, dan 70HST meningkatkan rata rata produksi BK sebesar 5,68 ; 9,04 ; 10,71 ton/ha/panen.Perlakuan sistem tanam tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap presentase Bahan Organik Red napier, sedangkan taraf umur panen berpengaruh sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap persentase produksi bahan organik Red napiersecara berurutan pada usia 42;56;70 HST sebesar 82,06;83,18;83,70%. Simpulan. Berdasarkan hasil, dapat disimpulkan bahwa sistem mixed cropping Red napier-gamal efektif meningkatkan produksi segar, kandungan bahan kering dan kandungan bahan organik rumput Red napier.
Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)Heading. This study is titled “Effectiveness of the Red napier–Gamal Mixed cropping System on Fresh and Dry Yield, and Organic Matter Content at Different Harvest Ages.. Background. Fluctuations in forage production represent a major challenge for the development of the livestock sector. Land-use change has led to reduced areas for forage cultivation, resulting in lower grass yields. The mixed cropping system, which integrates Red napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum cv. red) with the legume Gliricidia sepium, offers a strategy to improve land-use efficiency. The legume provides nitrogen through biological nitrogen fixation, supporting the vegetative growth of grasses, enhancing soil fertility, and enabling the simultaneous production of multiple crops. Forage productivity is also influenced by the age at harvest, as increased harvest age typically leads to higher total biomass accumulation.Materials and Methods. The study employed a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with a split-plot factorial arrangement of 2 × 3 and four replications, resulting in a total of 24 experimental units. The first factor (main plot) was the cropping system: monocropping (T1) and mixed cropping (T2). The second factor was harvest age (U): 42, 56, and 70 days after planting (DAP). Result. The implementation of the mixed cropping system had a significant effect (P<0.05), producing a higher fresh yield of 18 kg per 2.8 m² compared to 13.01 kg per 2.8 m² in the monocropping system. Harvest age also had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the fresh yield of Red napier, with the highest average yield recorded at 70 DAP, reaching 63.96 tons/ha/harvest. The mixed cropping system significantly increased dry matter yield to 9.93 tons/ha/harvest. Harvest age treatments at 42, 56, and 70 DAP resulted in increasing average dry matter yields of 5.68, 9.04, and 10.71 tons/ha/harvest, respectively. The cropping system did not significantly affect the organic matter content of Red napier. However, harvest age had a highly significant effect (P<0.01), with organic matter content increasing sequentially at 42, 56, and 70 DAP to 82.06%, 83.18%, and 83.70%, respectively. Conclusion. The conclusion of this study is that the Red napier–Gliricidia mixed cropping system is effective in improving fresh yield, dry matter content, and organic matter content of Red napier grass.
