Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)Latar Belakang. Simpulan. Sistem tanam mixed cropping dapat meningkatkan produksi segar dan produksi bahan kering rumput pakchong. Produksi optimal didapatkan pada sistem tanam mixed cropping umur panen 56 hari.
Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)Background. Limited availability of forage and land is one of the problems of problems for farmers to meet forage needs. One of the factors that affect productivity is the planting system and harvest age. Objective of this study was to determine the fresh production, dry matter production, and organic matter content of pakchong grass (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Thailand) due to the influence of different planting systems and defoliation age. Materials and Methods. The plants used were pakchong and gamal plants planted in plots of 9.6 m2 with a total land area of 316.16 m2. Experimental method based on Randomized Group Design (RAK) split plot pattern and repeated 4 times. The main plot factor was the cropping system, namely single (T) and mixed (C). Sub plot factors were harvest age 42 days (D1), 56 days (D2), and 70 days (D3). Result. The results showed that the planting system factor had a significant effect (P < 0.05) and the harvest age factor had a very significant effect (P < 0.01) on fresh production and dry matter production of pakchong grass, while the percentage of organic matter was only the harvest age factor that had a significant effect (P < 0.05). Optimal fresh production was obtained at harvest age 56 days with a mixed cropping planting system and the highest dry matter production was obtained in pakchong grass with a mixed cropping planting system at harvest age 70 days. The highest percentage of organic matter was obtained in pakchong grass with a monoculture planting system at the age of 56 days. Conclusion. The mixed cropping system can increase fresh and dry matter production of pakchong grass. Optimal production is obtained in the mixed cropping system at harvest age 56 days
