| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang Cinta Terlarang Pilar yang diambil dari karya Paulo Coelho dengan judul By The River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept. Tujuannnya untuk menemukan bagaimana teks menunjukkan cinta terlarang Pilar yang di cerminkan pada novel karya Paulo Coelho dengan judul By The River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa cinta terlarang Pilar dapat digambarkan dengan menggunakan pendekatan Objektif, Teori Strukturalism, dan unsur instrinsik seperti karakter, karakterisasi, serta plot. Penelitian ini menganalisis cinta terlarang yang digambarkan melalui mayor karakter, karakterisasinya,dan plot. Cinta terlarang Pilar menjelaskan seoranng wanita dan lekaki yang jatuh cinta. Mereka adalah Pilar sebagai wanita dan dia sebagai teman lelakinya. Mereka mengalami cinta terlarang karena hubungan mereka terlarang oleh dua hal. Dua hal tersebut adalah kehidupan duniawi dan kehidupan spiritual. Pilar dari latarbelakang kehidupan duniawi, tapi temannya dari latarbelakang dunia spiritual. Dua hal tersebut tidak bisa menyatu menjadi satu. Sesungguhnya mereka saling mencintai tapi karena dua hal tersebut seakaan membuat hubungan mereka sulit untuk bersatu. Sementara itu, mereka berusaha untuk mempertahankan cinta mereka itu membuat hubungan mereka makin rumit karena konflik makin meningkat satu demi satu karena masalah tidak hanya datang dari temannya Pilar tetapi juga dari orang-orang yang ingin memisahkan hubungan mereka. Konflik tersebut sangat teliti untuk dibahas, karena pada akhirnya mereka pun bisa bersama yang dijelaskan melalui plot.

| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research is about Forbidden Love of Pilar in Paulo Coelho’s “By The River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept. The purpose is to find out how the text shows Forbidden Love of Pilar as Depicted in Paulo Coelho. The result shows that Forbidden Love of Pilar is reflected in the novel using Objective approach and Structuralism theory through intrinsic elements, such as character, characterization and plot. The research analyzes forbidden love of Pilar that is described by major characters, their characterizations and plot. Forbidden love of Pilar explains that there is the woman who falls in love with the man. They are Pilar as woman and her companion is the man. They get into forbidden love because their relationship is prohibited by two things. It is refers to the material life and spiritual life. Pilar is from the material life, but her companion is from the spiritual life. Two things can’t be unite in one thing. Actually, they love each other because of two things, they are so difficult to unite. Meanwhile, they defend their love, so their relationship is more complicated because the conflict arise one by one. The problems are not only caused by her companion but also people who want to separate them. It makes the conflict arise one by one more detail. Finally, they can be together that is explained by plot.
