Indonesia) | Penelitian yang berjudul"Rigidity of Ephraim Cabot as reflected in Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under The Elms" inibertujuan untuk menganalisis sebab dan akibat kekakuan Ephraim Cabotyang muncul dalam drama Desire Under The Elms.Dari hasil penelitian, ada dua penyebab kekakuan (bentuk dari mekanisme pertahanan diri dan kepercayaan). Cabot tidak dapat membebaskan hasrat-hasratnya sehingga egonya mengembangkan mekanisme pertahanan untuk mengatasi kecemasannya. Kemudian, Cabot tumbuh menjadi orang yang kaku dan memiliki semangat tinggi karena doktrin dari keyakinannya. Ada dua akibat dari kekakuan Cabot (positif dan negatif). Dampak positif telah membuat Cabot menjadi orang yang sangat kaya dan terhormat. Dia tumbuh menjadi orang yang kuat, pekerja keras dan tangguh dalam menghadapi rintangan dalam hidupnya. Dampak negative membuat dia sulit dipahami dan otoriter. Kekakuan Cabot juga membuatnya dibenci dan ditinggalkan oleh anak-anaknya. |

Inggris) | This thesis entitled “Rigidity of Ephraim Cabot as reflected in Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under The Elms” is aimed to analyze the causes and the effects of Ephraim Cabot’srigidity which appear in the play Desire Under The Elms.From the research, there are two causes of rigidity (the form of defense mechanism and belief). Cabot cannot release his desire so his ego developes defense mechanism to overcome his anxiety. Then, Cabot has grown to be a rigid person who has high spirit because of his belief doctrine. There are two effects of Cabot’s rigidity (positive and negative).The positive effects make him become very rich and honorable person. Cabot has grown to become strong, hard working and tough in facing the obstacles in his life. The negative effects make him to be hard understood and authoritative. Cabot’s rigidity also makes his sons hated him and left him. |
