Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)Sebuah observasi pendahuluan mengungkap bahwa siswa SMAN 1 Purbalingga mengalami beberapa masalah dalam hal kosakata dan minat mereka terhadap bahasa Inggris. Situasi ini mempengaruhi penguasaan mereka dalam menulis teks naratif. Hal ini, pada kenyataannya, memberikan kesempatan untuk melakukan penelitian terhadap masalah yang dihadapi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menemukan hambatan yang dihadapi siswa dalam menulis teks naratif, faktor-faktor yang berkontribusi terhadap kesulitan mereka, dan cara mereka mengatasi kesulitan tersebut. Metode kualitatif, dengan menggunakan desain kualitatif deskriptif, diterapkan untuk mewujudkan investigasi ini. Dari 288 siswa di kelas 10-1, 25 siswa direkrut secara purposif sebagai partisipan. Data dikumpulkan melalui dokumentasi dan serangkaian wawancara. Teknik analisis kualitatif deskriptif Creswell (2015) diterapkan untuk menganalisis data yang terkumpul. Hasil penelitian mengungkap hambatan siswa dalam menulis teks naratif, yang meliputi 355 kesalahan: 58,03% penggunaan bahasa, 9,58% kosakata, 30,99% mekanik, 0,85% organisasi, dan 0,56% konten. Temuan ini juga menunjukkan beberapa penyebab kesulitan siswa dalam menulis teks naratif, termasuk kurangnya pengetahuan tentang struktur teks naratif, keterbatasan tata bahasa dan kosakata, serta kurangnya minat. Meskipun menghadapi kesulitan, para siswa tampaknya telah menerapkan sejumlah strategi untuk mengatasi kesulitan yang dimaksud, yaitu membaca teks fiksi dan nonfiksi, mendengarkan musik, menonton film, berlatih menulis, melatih motivasi diri, serta serta mengoptimalkan peran guru dalam mendukung siswa. Disarankan agar guru bahasa Inggris memperkuat siswanya agar lebih terpapar bahasa Inggris dengan bantuan teknologi. Memberikan instruksi kelas yang menyenangkan dengan menggunakan media seperti lagu atau film juga patut dipuji demi memperkaya pengetahuan kosa kata.

A preliminary observation unpacked that the students of SMAN 1 Purbalingga encountered some problems as to their vocabulary and interest in the English language. Such a situation influenced their mastery of narrative text writing. It, in actuality, provided an opportunity for an inquiry into the matter at hand. This study was conducted to discover the impediments with which the students faced in writing narrative texts, the factors that contributed to their difficulties, and the ways they overcame such difficulties. The qualitative method, employing a descriptive qualitative design, was applied in order to actualize this investigation. Of 288 students in the class 10th, 25 students were purposively recruited as the participants. Data were collected through
documentation and a series of interviews. Creswell’s (2015) descriptive qualitative analysis technique was applied so as to analyze the data mustered. The results unrevealed the students’ hindrances in writing narrative texts, encompassing 355 mistakes: 58.03% language use, 9.58% vocabulary, 30.99% mechanics, 0.85% organization, and 0.56% content. The findings also dictated several causes of the students’ challenges in writing narrative texts, including insufficient knowledge of the structure of a narrative text, limitations in grammar and vocabulary, as well as the lack of interest. In spite of facing difficulties, the students appeared to have implemented a number of strategies to cope with the difficulties in question, namely, reading fiction and non-fiction texts, listening to music, watching movies, rehearsing writing, practicing self-motivation, as well as optimizing the teacher’s role in supporting the students. It is suggested that the English teacher reinforce the students to get themselves more exposed to the English language with the aid of technology. It is also commendable to provide fun classroom instructions utilizing media such as songs or movies for the sake of enriching knowledge of vocabulary.
