profesi otoritatif.
Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)The research "Directive Speech Acts in Brooklyn Nine-Nine Character Dialogues" aims
to identify directive speech acts in the pilot episode of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine series.
Utilizing qualitative methodology, the primary data consists of directive dialogue
scripts from the first season. The main theoretical frameworks applied are Kreidler's
(1998) categorization of directive speech acts and Yule's (1996) concept of
Illocutionary Force Indicating Devices (IFID), along with Yule's (2006) theory on
contextual factors. The findings include a total of 51 directive speech acts, with
commands being the most prevalent (58.9%), followed by requests (23.5%) and
suggestions (17.6%). The dominance of commands correlates with the character’s roles
as police officers, reflecting the use of authoritative language. IFIDs, particularly word
order, were used to categorize directives, often in the form of imperative sentences.
The study also reveals that linguistic context or co-text, and physical context play
significant roles in interpreting directive speech acts. These results provide insights
into language use in popular media and communication dynamics in authoritative
professions.
