| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana perkebunan teh kolonial Belanda di Jawa digambarkan dalam novel The Tea Lords (1992) Karya Hella Haasse. Novel ini berlatar belakang pada zaman kolonial Belanda di abad ke-19 di Hindia Belanda. Penelitian ini menggunakan kerangka teoritis New Historicism yang dicetuskan oleh Stephen Greenblatt untuk menganalisis berbagai penggambaran novel tentang perkebunan teh kolonial Belanda di Jawa dan dampaknya terhadap masyarakat, budaya, dan ekonomi Hindia Belanda, dengan merujuk pada kedua sumber, baik dari novel maupun buku-buku sejarah. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif, peneliti menjelajahi konteks sejarah yang disajikan dalam novel dan buku-buku sejarah untuk mengungkap hubungan antara teks sastra dan teks non-sastra. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggambaran perkebunan teh kolonial Belanda di Jawa secara signifikan mempengaruhi masyarakat, budaya, dan ekonomi di Hindia Belanda melalui latar belakang dan karakterisasi dalam novel. Penelitian ini juga mengungkap disparitas ekonomi dalam sistem kolonial, menyoroti eksploitasi dan hierarki dalam struktur ekonomi dan dinamika tenaga kerja. Pencitraan keluarga Kerkhoven sebagai tokoh kolonial menggambarkan tantangan yang dihadapi dan dilema moral dalam mencapai kemakmuran dan kekuasaan. Analisa identitas dalam novel mengungkap kompleksitas adaptasi budaya dan proses rumit dalam menyelaraskan identitas diri di tengah kondisi kolonialisme. Latar belakang penulis Belanda juga memengaruhi narasi novel ini, yang berfungsi sebagai medium untuk menyampaikan pandangan dan aspirasi terkait suatu peristiwa sejarah. |
