Kata Kunci: Tanda – Star – Novel – Fantasy – Stardust Penelitian berjudul “The Sign of Star as Reflected in Yvaine in Neil Gaiman’s Stardust.” bertujuan untuk menganalisis arti tanda bintang pada karakter utama yg ditemukan di novel Stardust karangan Neil Gaiman. Dalam penelitian ini, metode deskriptif kualitatif digunakan untuk menganalisis data yaitu novel karya Neil Gaiman berjudul Stardust. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah novel yang akan dianalisis menggunakan teori semiotic. Terdapat beberapa langkah yang dilakukan dalam menganalisis dan mengetahui jawaban dari pertanyaan yang diajukan dalam penelitian ini. Pertama adalah menentukan objek yang akan dianalisis yaitu novel Stardust lalu langkah kedua adalah mendapatkan unsur-unsur intrinsik dari dalam novel, seperti dialog,narasi dan juga karakter itu sendiri sebagai unsur paling dominan dalam novel. Semua ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis pertanyaan penelitian tentang bagaimana Neil Gaiman sebagai penulis novel mendeskripsikan symbol bintang pada karakter Yvaine. Ketiga adalah menganalisis data dan menghubungkannya dengan teori semiotik melalui unsur intrinsic dari dalam novel. Langkah terakhir adalah membuat kesimpulan. Dari penelitian ini, terdapat lima bagian yang di jelaskan oleh pengarang dalam novel Stardust yang pertama adalah semangat sebagai Ikon, yang kedua adalah kesetiaan dan pembaharuan sebagai Indeks, dan yang terakhir keabadian dan cinta sebagai Simbol. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi sebuah media untuk menambah pemahaman tentang novel sebagai sebuah bentuk karya sastra. Penggunaan teori semiotic dalam penelitian ini diharapkan bisa menjadi bahan tambahan untuk kemudian dapat diterapkan di objek yang lebih luas. |

Keywords: Sign – Star – Novel – Fantasy – Stardust The research entitled "The Sign of Star as Reflected in Yvaine in Neil Gaiman’s Stardust in Stardust novel by Neil Gaiman” is aimed to analyze the meaning of sign star as reflected in main character that applied in Neil Gaiman novel Stardust. In this research, descriptive qualitative method is used to analyze the data; the first, novel by Neil Gaiman entitled Stardust. The data source of this study is the novel which is analyzed through the framework of semiotic theory. There are steps done in extracting and analyzing the novel as the answer of the research questions. The first is determining the novel which is going to be analyzed that is the novel Stardust and the second is obtaining the intrinsic elements of the novels, such the dialogue, narration and also the character as the most dominant intrinsic elements in the novel. It is done to analyze them dealing with the research questions about how the Neil Gaiman as the author of the novel describe the meaning of symbol of star in the character Yvaine. The third is analyzing the data by connecting them with the semiotic theory through the intrinsic elements from the novel. The last step is concluding. From the research, there are five parts that the author describes in the novel Stardust, first is Spirit as the Icon of the star, second is Loyalty and Renewal as the Index of the star, and last is Immortality and Love as the symbol of the star. The results of the research are expected to enrich the comprehension of novels and more knowledge about semiotic theory, so they can apply them in other objects. |
