Penelitian ini berjudul Code Switching Analysis in Latinos Are Not All the Same by Gabriel Iglesias. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis alih kode dan mendeskripsikan alasan alih kode dalam video YouTube Gabriel Iglesias. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah jenis alih kode Wardhaugh, R. (2011) dan alasan alih kode berdasarkan teori Hoffmann (1991). Dalam mengumpulkan data, transkrip percakapan dalam video dicatat. Karena penelitian ini menggunakan total sampling untuk mengumpulkan data, maka peneliti mengumpulkan semua ujaran yang mengandung alih kode bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Spanyol sebagai data. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Data penelitian ini adalah 11 alih kode yang diucapkan oleh Gabriel Iglesias sebagai seorang stand-up comedian. Hasil dari penelitian jenis alih kode adalah 10 (91%) alih kode situasional, dan 1 (9%) alih kode metaforis. Selanjutnya, hasil dari alasan penggunaan alih kode adalah 4 (36,4%) membicarakan topik tertentu, 4 (36,4%) mengekspresikan identitas kelompok, 2 (18,1%) untuk menegaskan sesuatu, dan 1 (9,1%) pengulangan yang digunakan untuk memperjelas. |

This research aims to analyze the type of code-switching and to describe the reason for code-switching in Gabriel Iglesias’s YouTube video. The theories applied in conducting this research are types of code-switching Wardhaugh, R. (2011) and reasons for code-switching based on Hoffmann’s (1991) theory. In collecting the data, the transcript of conversation in the video was written. This study uses total sampling to collect the data, the researcher collects all of the utterances that consists of English-Spanish code switching as the data. The research is conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research are 11 code-switching uttered by Gabriel Iglesias as a stand-up comedian. The result of this research for the types of code-switching are 10 (91%) situational code-switching, and 1 (9%) metaphorical code-switching. Furthermore, the result of reasons code-switching are 4 (36,4%) talking about particular topic, 4 (36,4%) expressing group identity, 2 (18,1%) being emphatic about something, and 1 (9,1 %) repetition used for clarification. |
