Penguji Eksternal: Ririn Kurnia Trisnawati, S.S., M.A. Kata Kunci: Kajian Semiotika, Michael Riffaterre, Puisi, Mary Oliver, Dog Songs Konsentrasi penelitian ini adalah penggambaran duka pada tiga puisi terpilih dalam kumpulan Dog Songs: “Her Grave”, “Bazougey”, dan “The First Time Percy Came Back” karya Mary Oliver dengan menggunakan teori Semiotika Puisi Michael Riffaterre. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Hasil Heuristic Reading menunjukkan bahwa ketiga puisi tersebut sama-sama bicara tentang interaksi antara manusia dan anjing, yang secara berurutan menyorot soal kerelaan, kenangan, and kehendak untuk melanjutkan hidup. Hasil Semantic Indirection menunjukkan bahwa dalam Displacing of Meaning, “Her Grave” mengandung enam Metafora dan sebelas Metonimia, sedangkan “Bazougey” dan “The First Time Percy Came Back” sama-sama mengandung dua Metafora dan satu Metonimia; Dalam kategori Distorting of Meaning, “Her Grave” mengandung sebelas Ambiguitas dan satu Kontradiksi, sedangkan “Bazougey” dan “The First Time Percy Came Back” sama-sama mengandung satu Ambiguitas dan satu Nonsense; Untuk kategori Creating of Meaning, ketiga puisi ini sama-sama menggunakan rima berupa Aliterasi dan Asonansi, Enjambemen, namun tanpa Typography. Hasil Hermeneutic Reading menunjukkan bahwa dalam “Her Grave” kematian digambarkan sebagai takdir yang pasti dan harus dihadapi tanpa adanya penyesalan; “Bazougey” menunjukkan bahwa takdir Tuhan lebih besar bahkan dari cinta antar makhluk-Nya sendiri; and“The First Time Percy Came Back” menunjukkan bahwa duka adalah perasaan yang harus diterima dengan penuh optimisme. Matrix dari tiga puisi ini adalah penerimaan atas duka. Tiga puisi ini memiliki kesamaan Model, yakni penerimaan. Varian puisi “Her Grave” adalah bait ke delapan, sepuluh, empatbelas, limabelas, enambelas, tujuhbelas, delapanbelas, dan ke sembilanbelas. Varian puisi “Bazougey” adalah bait ketiga dan keempat. Sementara varian puisi “The First Time Percy Came Back” adalah baris ke sebelas sampai baris ke sembilanbelas. Hipogram potensial dari ketiga puisi ini memiliki kesamaan, yakni penjabaran Matrix yang mana adalah penerimaan atas duka. Hipogram actual “Her Grave” adalah puisi lain berjudul “Luke” dan “Luke Junkyard Song”, “Bazougey” adalah essay berjudul “Dog Talk”, sedangkan “The First Time Percy Came Back” adalah puisi berjudul “Percy”, “Untited” “School”. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah tema ketiga puisi tersebut adalah penerimaan atas duka. |

Supervisor 1 Rizki Februansyah, S.S., M.A., Supervisor 2 Dr. Lynda Susana WAF, S.S, M.Hum, External Examiner: Ririn Kurnia Trisnawati, S.S., M.A. Keywords: Semiotic Studies, Michael Riffaterre, Poetry, Mary Oliver, Dog Songs This research concerns the depiction of grief in three selected poems in the Dog Songs collection: “Her Grave”, “Bazougey”, and “The First Time Percy Came Back” by Mary Oliver using Michael Riffaterre's Semiotics of Poetry theory. This study uses a qualitative method. The results of the Heuristic Reading shows the three poems talk about the interaction between humans and dogs, which respectively highlight willingness, memories, and the will to continue living. The results of Semantic Indirection shows that in Displacing of Meaning, “Her Grave” contains six metaphors and eleventh metonyms, while “Bazougey” and “The First Time Percy Came Back” both have two metaphors and one metonymy; In the Distorting of Meaning category, “Her Grave” contains eleventh Ambiguity and one Contradiction, while “Bazougey” and “The First Time Percy Came Back” both have one Ambiguity and one Nonsense; For the Creating of Meaning category, these three poems both use rhymes in the form of Alliteration and Assonance, Enjambment, but without Typography. The results of the Hermeneutic Reading show that in “Her Grave” death is an inevitable destiny and must be faced without any regrets; “Bazougey” indicates that God’s destiny is greater than even the love between His creatures; and “The First Time Percy Came Back” shows that grief is a feeling that must accept with optimism. The Matrix of these three poems is acceptance of grief. These three poems have the same model which is acceptance. The poem “Her Grave” variants are eighth, tenth, fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth. The poem “Bazougey” variants are the third and fourth stanzas. While the variant of the poem “The First Time Percy Came Back” are lines eleventh to nineteenth. The potential hypograms of these three poems have one thing in common: the elaboration of the Matrix, which is acceptance of grief. The actual hipogram “Her Grave” is another poem entitled “Luke” and “Luke Junkyard Song”, “Bazougey” is an essay entitled “Dog Talk”, while “The First Time Percy Came Back” is a poem entitled “Percy”, “Untited”, “School”. From the research above, it can be concluded the theme of those three poems is acceptance of grief. |
