| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan tingkat kemampuan siswa dalam pengetahuan past tense dan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks recount dan mencari hubungan antar variabel. Penelitian ini menggunakan pengetahuan siswa mengenai past tense sebagai variabel bebas dan kemampuan siswa menulis teks recount sebagai variabel terikat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode total sampling dengan 31 siswa kelas XI BB SMA Negeri 1 Pemalang sebagai sampelnya. Data penelitian didapat melalui soal pilihan ganda berfokus pada jenis-jenis past tense dan tes menulis teks recount. Metode statistik yang digunakan adalah regresi analisis sederhana menggunakan SPSS 26. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan siswa kelas XI BB SMA Negeri 1 Pemalang mengenai past tense adalah cukup baik karena nilai rata-ratanya adalah 74. Sedangkan kemampuan menulis recount text siswa kelas XI BB SMA Negeri 1 Pemalang adalah baik karena nilai rata-ratanya adalah 80. Kedua variabel menunjukkan hubungan yang positif dimana sebanyak 56,6% pengetahuan siswa mengenai past tense berpengaruh terhadap kemampuannya dalam menulis teks recount. |

| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | The aim of this study is to determine the mastery level of students’ knowledge of past tense and writing skills in recount text and to find their correlation between the two variables. This study used the students’ knowledge of past tense as the independent variable and the students’ writing skills in recount text as the dependent variable. Total sampling was used in this study which the sample was 31 students of XI BB at SMA Negeri 1 Pemalang. The data were collected by using multiple choice items focused on kinds of past tense and writing test focused on composing recount text. The statistical method used was simple regression analysis using SPSS 26. The result showed that the XI BB of SMA Negeri 1 Pemalang students’ past tenses knowledge is fairly good because the mean score is 74. While the XI BB of SMA Negeri 1 Pemalang students’ writing skill in recount text is good forits mean score of the writing test is 80. These variables showed a positive correlation by 56,6% of students’ knowledge of past tenses affected their writing skill in recount text. |
