Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)Penelitian ini berjudul Deciphering Rain in Bradbury’s “The Long Rain (1950)”, “There Will Come Soft Rains (1950)”, and “The Day it Rained Forever (1959)”: A Comparative Study. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan dan persamaan hujan yang terdapat dalam “The Long Rain”, “There Will Come Soft Rains”, and “The Day it Rained Forever”. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dalam menganalisis data. “The Long Rain”, “There Will Come Soft Rains”, and “The Day it Rained Forever” adalah cerita pendek yang ditulis oleh Ray Douglas Bradbury pada tahun 1950an dan hadir dengan seri buku yang berbeda. Penelitian ini fokus mempelajari perbedaan dan persamaan hujan serta pengaruhnya terhadap masing-masing cerita. Selain itu, peneliti menggunakan Teori Perbandingan dalam Sastra untuk menganalisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan dalam intensitas (rendah, tidak ada, dan sangat besar), fungsi (harapan, symbol, dan hambatan), dan efek hujan (positif efek, perspektif baru, dan negatif efek) pada ketiga cerita tersebut. Kesamaan juga ditemukan yaitu pesan intrinsik/ makna tersirat dan unsur penting alam.
Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)This research is entitled Deciphering Rain in Bradbury’s “The Long Rain (1950)”, “There Will Come Soft Rains (1950)”, and “The Day it Rained Forever (1959)”: A Comparative Study. The purpose of the research is to find out the differences and the similarities of rain that contained in “The Long Rain”, “There Will Come Soft Rains”, and “The Day it Rained Forever”. The researcher used qualitative method in analyzing the data. The Long Rain”, “There Will Come Soft Rains”, and “The Day it Rained Forever” are a short story by Ray Douglas Bradbury written in the 1950’ and come with different series of books. This research focuses on studying the differences and also similarities of the rain and the impact on each story. In addition, the researcher employed Comparative Theory in Literature to analyze the data. The result of this research shows that there are differences in the intensity (small, none, and very large), the function (hope, symbol, and obstacles), and the effect of rain (positive effects, new perspective, and negative effects). Similarities also found that is the intrinsic message/ implied meaning and important element of nature
