| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian yang berjudul ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas 1957 by Dr. Seuss and The Grinch 2018 by Yarrow Cheney and Scoot Mosier: An Adaptation Study’ bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan dari hal unsur intrinsik yang digambarkan dalam buku bergambar berjudul How The Grinch Stole Christmas 1957 dan film The Grinch 2018. Lebih lanjut, peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menggabungkan data yang didapatkan dari naskah cerita dan gambar visual buku bergambar How The Grinch Stole Christmas dan juga pendengaran visual dan ekspresi visual film The Grinch. Penelitian pada kedua karya sastra ini menggunakan teori adaptasi dari Linda Hutcheon yang berfokus pada elemen apa. Karakter, karaktierisasi, dan alur cerita dianalisis bertujuan untuk menentukkan mode penentuan dan teknik adaptasi yang digunakan pada versi film. Penelitian ini membuktikkan mode cerita ditujukkan untuk buku bergambar dan mode pertunjukkan ditujukkan untuk versi film. Selebihnya teknik penambahan dalam adaptasi bertujuan untuk menemukan karakter dan karakterisasi baru pada film The Grinch. Sedangkan teknik variasi bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi alur cerita terutama dari kedua karya sastra terutama pada klimaks dan resolusi. |

Inggris) | This research entitled ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas 1957 by Dr. Seuss and The Grinch 2018 by Yarrow Cheney and Scoot Mosier: An Adaptation Study’ is aimed to figure out the differences of intrinsic elements issues as depicted in How The Grinch Stole Christmas as a picture book and The Grinch as a film. Further, the researcher used a qualitative research to combine the data collected from the written script and visual images of How the Grinch Stole Christmas picture book and also visual auditory and visual expression of The Grinch film. In analyzing the two works, this research used Linda Hutcheon’s theory of adaptation which focused on the ‘what’ element. Character, characterization and plot were analyzed to find out the modes of engagement and adaptation technique used in the film version. The result shows telling mode is intended for picture book and showing mode is addressed to the film version. Moreover, the addition technique in adaptation is to figure out new character and characterization in The Grinch film. Then, variation technique is to identify the plot of two literary works particularly for climax and resolution. |
