Latar belakang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian bawang putih (Allium sativum) dan kulit jeruk (Citrus Sp.) dalam pakan domba terhadap populasi protozoa dan metanogen in vitro. Metodologi. Materi penelitian yang digunakan adalah cairan rumen domba, pakan basal, tepung kulit jeruk, tepung bawang, larutan Mc Dougalls. Pakan basal terdiri dari campuran 70% hijauan dengan 30% konsentrat. Hijauan yang dipakai adalah rumput lapang, dan konsentrat. Peubah yang diamati meliputi populasi protozoa dan populasi metanogen domba. Data terkoleksi dianalisis menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dan uji lanjut beda nyata jujur. Hasil. Rataan populasi protozoa berkisar 3,56 – 3,78 x 105sel/ml, dan rataan populasi metanogen berkisar 1,30 – 2,60 x 105sel/ml. Kesimpulan. Suplementasi bawang dan kulit jeruk mempengaruhi populasi protozoa, populasi terendah pada perlakuan R5 (pakan basal+ 50 ppm bawang putih + 6% kulit jeruk) dan populasi metanogen terendah pada perlakuan R2 (pakan basal + 200 ppm bawang putih + 1,5% kulit jeruk).

Background. This study aimed to determine the effect in vitro supplementation of garlic (Allium sativum) and orange peel (Citrus Sp.) in the sheep's feed to the population of protozoa and methanogens. Methodology. The research materials used were sheep rumen fluid, basal feed, orange peel powder, garlic powder, Mc Dougalls. Basal feed consists of a mixture of 70% forage with 30% concentrate. The forage used is grass and concentrate. The observed variables included the population of protozoa and the population of sheep methanogens. Collected data were analyzed using a completely randomized design and a further test of honest real difference. Results. The average population of protozoa ranged from 3.56 to 3.78 x 105sel/ml, and the average population of methanogens ranged from 1.30 to 2.60 x 105sel/ml. Conclusion. Garlic and orange peel supplementation affected the protozoa population, the lowest population was in R5 treatment (basal feed + 50 ppm garlic powder + 6% orange peel powder) and the lowest population was methanogens in R2 treatment (basal feed + 200 ppm garlic + 1.5% orange peel).
