| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini berjudul The Doctor’s Depression and Suicide in Marquez’s Leaf Storm yang berfokus pada analisis depresi dan bunuh diri sang Dokter. Bidang penelitian ini adalah psikologi dalam sastra yang merupakan kajian untuk menganalisis aspek psikologis dari suatu karakter karya sastra. Selanjutnya penelitian ini membedah dan membahas apa saja penyebab depresi Dokter dan bagaimana bunuh diri menjadi keputusannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisis data. Data primer diambil dari novel berjudul Leaf Storm yang ditulis oleh Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Data primer dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori psikologi literatur dan didukung oleh teori depresi, bunuh diri dan absurdisme. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa ada tiga gagasan yang memicu depresi dan bunuh diri yang dialami oleh karakter Dokter. Hal tersebut adalah thwarted belongingness, hilangnya hal-hal penting, dan absurdisme dalam kehidupan Dokter. Setelah menghadapi begitu banyak perjuangan dan intervensi dari depresi, Dokter akhirnya memutuskan untuk mengakhiri hidupnya sendiri. |

| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research entitled The Doctor’s depression and Suicide in Marquez’s Leaf Storm focuses on analyzing the Doctor’s depression and suicide. The field of this research is psychology in literature which is the study to analyze the psychological aspect of a literary work’s character. Furthermore, the research dissects and discusses what are the causes of the Doctor’s depression and how suicide is become his decision. This research uses descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The data are taken from a novella entitled Leaf storm written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The data are analyzed by using the psychology in literature theory and supported by depression, suicide and absurdism theory. The result of this research finds that there are three notions which trigger the Doctor character’s depression and suicide. They are; the thwarted belongingness, the loss of important things, and the absurdism in the Doctor’s life. After facing so many struggles and depression intervention, the Doctor decided to take his own life. |
