| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Judul penelitian ini adalah “Pengaruh Hibriditas dalam novel Kiran Desai The Inheritance of Loss. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui proses hibriditas yang digambarkan dalam novel Kiran Desai The Inheritance of Loss. Dalam penelitian ini, metode deskriptif kualitatif digunakan untuk menganalisis postkolonialisme dan hibriditas pada beberapa tokoh dalam novel Kiran Desai berjudul The Inheritance of Loss. Peneliti menggunakan beberapa langkah untuk mengumpulkan informasi dan sumber yang akan berguna untuk penelitian ini. Pertama, reduksi data diperlukan untuk memilih data yang terkait dengan penelitian dan data yang tidak terkait dengan penelitian. Kedua, pengelompokan data yang diperlukan untuk mengkategorikan data yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Ketiga adalah interpretasi data yang artinya data tersebut mengandung interpretasi dan analisis dari peneliti dengan menunjukkan bukti-bukti yang dikumpulkan untuk mendukung penelitian. Kesimpulan terakhir, sebagai kesimpulan langkah terakhir adalah menyimpulkan dari awal sampai akhir penelitian ini. The Inheritance of Loss menangkap hilangnya kepercayaan di India dan semua karakter utama yang mencoba bertahan di dunia yang penuh konflik antara Timur dan Barat. Penggambaran hibriditas bisa dilihat dalam keseharian mereka. Misalnya, Jemubhai menggunakan garpu, sendok, dan pisau untuk menyantap makanan tradisional India. Nimi berada di bawah tekanan karena dia memaksa untuk mengikuti gaya hidup hibrida Jemubhai dan namanya terbuat dari hibrida, Bela Patel. Cucu perempuannya Sai masih menggunakan bahasa Inggris dalam kesehariannya meskipun ia dipindahkan ke Cho Oyu. Hibriditasnya adalah, dia masih merayakan Natal sementara dia beragama Hindu. Dan kehidupan masak tidak mudah, karena gaya hidup Jemubhai yang bertindak seperti penjajah, juru masak mengalami penindasan. Biju menyajikan dan makan daging sapi di Amerika saat dia beragama Hindu. Harish Harry yang terakhir, namanya adalah hibriditas karena Harish adalah nama India dan Harry adalah nama Amerika, dia mencampur keduanya. Peneliti lain diundang untuk menganalisis novel dari sudut pandang yang berbeda. Di sisi lain, ambivalensi mungkin bisa digunakan untuk menganalisis novel ini. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | The title of this research is “The Effect of Hybridity in Kiran Desai’s novel The Inheritance of Loss. The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of hybridity that is depicted in Kiran Desai’s novel The Inheritance of Loss. In this research, a descriptive qualitative method is applied to analyze the postcolonialism and hybridity in some characters in Kiran Desai’s novel entitled The Inheritance of Loss. The researcher uses some steps to collect the information and source that will be useful to this research. First, data reduction is needed to choose the data which are related to the research and the data that are not related to the research. The second is data grouping which is needed for categorizing the data which will be used in this research. The third is data interpretation which means the data contain the interpretation and analysis from the researcher by showing the evidence that is collected to support the research. The last in conclusion, as the last step conclusion is concluding the beginning until the end of this research. The Inheritance of Loss captures the loss of faith in India and in all those major characters who try to survive in the conflicting world between East and West. The depiction of hybrid can be seen in their daily life. For example, Jemubhai uses a fork, spoon, and knife to eat Indian traditional food. Nimi is under pressure because he forces to follow Jemubhai hybrid’s lifestyle and her name is made of a hybrid, Bela Patel. His granddaughter Sai still uses English in her daily life even though she was moved to Cho Oyu. The hybridity of her is, she still celebrated Christmas while she is Hindus. And the cook life is not easy, because of Jemubhai lifestyle act like a colonizer, the cook experience oppression. Biju serves and eats meat cow in America while he is Hindu. The last Harish Harry, his name is the hybridity because Harish is an Indian name and Harry is an American name, he mixed both.The other researcher is invited to analyze the novel from different points of view. On the other side, ambivalence maybe can be used to analyze this novel. |
