| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian yang berjudul “Transitivity Analysis of Newspaper Ideology Construction: A Study on New York Times’s Article about Donald Trump’s Firing James Comey” memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui tipe proses dan partisipan yang dikonstruksikan pada artikel The New York Times melalui proses transitivitas. Kemudian, penelitian ini juga menganalisis ideologi artikel tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menganalisis data karena hasilnya dijelaskan dalam bentuk deskripsi narasi atau tekstual untuk menafsirkan data. Data yang digunakan berupa klausa-klausa dari koran daring The New York Times. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari keseluruhan 152 klausa pada artikel tersebut terdapat 60 proses material (39%), 4 proses mental (2.6%), 23 proses verbal (15.1%) ,29 proses relational(19.1%), 36 proses behavioral (23.7%). Kemudian terdapat partisipan berupa actor(46 or 19.2%), goal(45 or 19%), client(1 or 0.4%), senser(17 or 7.1%), phenomenon(14 or 5.8%), sayer(25 or 10.5%), verbiage(11 or 4.6%), receiver(1 or 0.4%), behaver(4 or 1.7%), carrier(22 or9.2%), attribute(22 or 9.2%), identified(14 or 6%) dan identifier(14 or 6%). Penelitian ini dapat mencapai kesimpulan bahwa proses yang paling dominan adalah material dan partisipan paling dominan adalah aktor dan goal. Sejalan dengan proses transitivitas tersebut, penulis artikel menunjukkan konsistensi dalam memberikan gambaran tentang Donald Trump yaitu sebagai aktor dan James Comey sebagai goal. Pemilihan leksikal dari proses dan partisipan tersebut memberikan kesan buruk terhadap Trump dan menunjukkan ketidaksetujuan penulis artikel terhadap keputusan Trump atas pemecatan direktur F.B.I James Comey. |

Inggris) | This research entitled “Transitivity Analysis of Newspaper Ideology Construction: A Study on New York Times’s Article about Donald Trump’s Firing James Comey” is aimed to find out the types of process and participant constructed in The New York Times article entitled “In Trump’s Firing of James Comey, Echoes of Watergate" through the transitivity process. Furthermore, it also analyzes the ideology of the article. The researcher uses qualitative method in analyzing the data since the results were presented in narrative or textual description for interpreting the data. The data are clauses from the The New York Times online newspaper. The result shows that among 152 clauses found in the article, there are 60 material procesess (39%), 4 mental (2.6%), 23 verbal (15.1%) , 29 relational(19.1%), 36 behavioral (23.7%). For the participants, there are actor(46 or 19.2%), goal(45 or 19%), client(1 or 0.4%), senser(17 or 7.1%), phenomenon(14 or 5.8%), sayer(25 or 10.5%), verbiage(11 or 4.6%), receiver(1 or 0.4%), behaver(4 or 1.7%), carrier(22 or9.2%), attribute(22 or 9.2%), identified(14 or 6%) and identifier(14 or 6%). In conclusion, the most dominant process type is material process and most dominant participant is actor and goal. In accordance to the transitivity process, the article writer shows his consistency in depicting things about Donald Trump as the actor and James Comey as the goal. The lexical choice of process and participant mostly gives Trump bad assignment and shows disagreement toward the decision of firing the FBI director, James Comey. |
