| Judul Artikel | Portrayal of Mothers in Post-Apocalyptic World as Represented in Bier’s Bird Box and Krasinski’s A Quiet Place: A Comparative Study |

| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian yang berjudul “Portrayal of Mothers in Post-Apocalyptic World as Represented in Bier’s Bird Box and Krasinski’s A Quiet Place: A Comparative Study” bertujuan untuk mengetahui persamaan serta perbedaan penggambaran karakter ibu dalam dunia pasca-apokaliptik seperti yang digambarkan pada dua film tersebut. Karenanya, peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dalam menganalisa data. Data utama dari penelitian ini adalah film Bird Box oleh Bier dan A Quiet Place oleh Krasinski. Dalam menganalisis persamaan dan perbedaan kedua karakter ibu pada dua film tersebut, peneliti menggunakan teori Sastra Bandingan. Selain itu, untuk mengembangkan analisis, peneliti juga menggunakan studi tentang ibu, diskusi terkait dunia pasca-apokaliptik, dan beberapa elemen visual dari Teori Sinematografi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada beberapa persamaan serta perbedaan yang ditemukan pada penggambaran dua karakter ibu dalam dunia pasca-apokaliptik. Persamaan pertama karakter para ibu adalah mereka memiliki ketakutan yang sama terhadap makhluk misterius yang membuat mereka tidak bisa menggunakan mata dan suara secara leluasa. Kedua, mereka harus menghadapi kegelisahan yang muncul tiap para anak tidak ada di sisi mereka. Terakhir, mereka mengalami duka yang amat dalam setelah menyaksikan secara langsung orang-orang terkasih mereka dibunuh. Sedangkan, perbedaan pertama para ibu adalah mereka membesarkan anak-anak dengan cara berbeda, tetapi mereka sama-sama menunjukkan ketegasan agar anak mereka menjadi kuat. Kedua, mereka melalui perjalanan kehamilan yang berbeda. Terakhir, mereka memiliki motivasi hidup berbeda meski harus hidup di situasi yang sama. Kesimpulannya, penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa perjuangan para ibu nyata adanya dalam situasi dunia apapun, walau perjuangannya berbeda dari para ibu di dunia nyata. |

Inggris) | The research titled “Portrayal of Mothers in Post-Apocalyptic World as Represented in Bier’s Bird Box and Krasinski’s A Quiet Place: A Comparative Study” is aimed to figure out the similarities and dissimilarities of mothers’ portrayal in post-apocalyptic world as depicted in both movies. Consequently, the researcher used qualitative method to analyze the data. The primary data of this research are Bier’s Bird Box and Krasinski’s A Quiet Place movies. In analyzing the similarities and differences of the two mother characters in both movies, the researcher used Comparative Theory. In addition, to elaborate the analysis, the researcher also applies mother studies, discussion about post-apocalyptic world and some visual elements from Cinematography Theory. The result of this research shows that there are some similarities and differences of mothers’ portrayal in the post-apocalyptic world. The first similarity is that both fear the mysterious creatures which make them unable to use their eyes and voice freely. The second is that these mothers have to deal with their anxiety whenever their children are not around. The last is experiencing great grief after witnessing their loved ones die in front of them. Meanwhile, the first difference is that these mother characters apply different parenting styles, but both demonstrate their firm side to toughen their children up. The second is that they undergo different journeys of pregnancy. The last is that they have different life motivation despite having to live through similar condition. Finally, this research illustrates that mother’s struggle does exist in any kind of world situation, although their struggle in the post-apocalyptic world is distinct from those in the real world. |
