Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)Latar Belakang: Kondisi iron overload pada penderita talasemia beta dapat memicu kerusakan di berbagai organ, termasuk pankreas. Kerusakan pada pankreas menyebabkan kegagalan dan penurunan sekresi insulin yang berkontribusi terhadap terjadinya gangguan metabolisme glukosa hingga diabetes mellitus pada penderita talasemia beta.
Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis korelasi antara kadar hepsidin dan feritin sebagai marker iron overload dengan kadar insulin dan HbA1c sebagai marker kerusakan pankreas pada penderita talasemia beta.
Metode: Penelitian dengan desain cross sectional dilakukan dengan subjek 35 penderita talasemia β. Data hepsidin, insulin dan HbA1c diukur menggunakan metode ELISA. Data Feritin didapatkan melalui data penelitian sebelumnya. Analisis Bivariat menggunakan uji pearson.
Hasil: Terdapat 97,1% subjek memiliki kadar hepsidin rendah, sedangkan data feritin dalam kategori tinggi. Data menunjukkan bahwa 88,6% subjek memiliki kadar insulin yang rendah. Sebagian besar subjek (85,7%) juga memiliki kadar HbA1c yang rendah. Hasil uji pearson diperoleh nilai p = 0,001 yang menunjukkan hubungan signifikan antara hepsidin dengan insulin (r=0,771) dan HbA1c (r=0,849). Namun kadar feritin tidak menunjukkan hubungan yang bermakna dengan insulin (p = 0,785; r = 0,057) dan HbA1c (p = 0,420; r = 0,169).
Kesimpulan: Semakin rendah kadar hepsidin maka semakin rendah kadar insulin dan HbA1c. Kadar feritin tidak memiliki hubungan yang bermakna dengan kadar insulin dan HbA1c.


Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris)Background: Iron overload in β-thalassemia patients can lead to damage in various organs, including the pancreas. The damage of the pancreas causing the failure and reduce insulin secretion, contributing to impaired glucose metabolism to diabetes mellitus in patients with β-thalassemia.
Objective: This study aims to analyze the correlation between hepcidin and ferritin levels as markers of iron overload with insulin levels and HbA1c as markers of pancreatic damage in patients with β thalassemia.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted by subjects of 35 thalassemia β patients. Hepcidin, insulin, and HbA1c data were measured using the ELISA method. Ferritin data obtained through patient medical records. Bivariate analysis is using the Pearson test.
Results: There were 97.1% of subjects had low hepcidin levels, whereas the ferritin data were in the high category. The data showed that 88.6% of subjects had low insulin levels. Most of the subjects (85.7%) were in the low category of HbA1c levels. Pearson test had a p-value = 0.001 which it indicates a significant relationship between hepcidin and insulin (r=0.771) and HbA1c (r=0.849). However, the ferritin levels showed no significant relationship with insulin (p=0.785 ; r=0.057) and HbA1c (p=0.420 ; r=0.169).
Conclusions: The lower hepcidin level, the lower the insulin and HbA1c levels. Ferritin levels do not have a significant relationship with insulin and HbA1c levels.
