| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tipe humor dan strategi penerjemahan yang berfokus pada penerjemahan subtitle di dalam film KEVIN HART: WHAT NOW. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori tipe dari humor oleh Raphaelson-West (1989) dan teori strategi penerjemahan oleh Tomaszkiewicz (1993). Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif sebagai rancangan penelitian, penelitian ini didasarkan pada dua research question yang bertujuan; 1) menemukan tipe humor yang terdapat di dalam film, 2) menemukan bagamiana cara penerapan strategi penerjemahan melalui sebuah humor. Menurut hasil penelitian, ditemukan 31 ungkapan kelucuan. 31 ungkapan lucu ini terdiri dari 4 (13%) linguistic humor, 10 (32%) cultural humor, 17 (55%) universal humor. Humor yang paling dominan dalam film ini adalah universal humor yang ditunjukkan dengan membawa isu lingkungan sosial seperti; rasisme, hubungan dalam berpasangan, masalah rumah tangga dan kehidupan pribadi. Sementara itu, linguistics humor adalah yang paling sedikit. Ini dikarenakan Kevin hanya bermain dengan humor ringan daripada permainan kata dan idiom dalam istilah linguistik. Karakter utama dalam film ini juga menyampaikan kritik dan hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan kondisi sosial saat itu dengan humor. Strategi subtitling yang berlaku dalam menerjemahkan ucapan humor terdiri dari 5 strategi; 7 (23%) omission, 13 (42%) literal, 6 (19%) borrowing, 4 (13%) equivalence, and 1 (3%) generalization. Setelah melakukan pengamatan terhadap penggunaan strategi, literal strategy merupakan strategi paling dominan dalam film KEVIN HART: WHAT NOW ini. Secara khusus, literal strategy adalah strategi penerjemahan yang paling sering diterapkan bersaman dengan universal humor. Hal ini karena Kevin membawakan materi humor menggunakan kata-kata umum, sehingga mudah dimengerti oleh audiens/pemirsa dalam skala besar. Sebaliknya, strategi yang paling sedikit diterapkan adalah generalization strategy. Dikarenakan hanya ada satu humor yang mengandung kata tidak familiar yang butuh penyesuaian kata dalam istilah budaya di bahasa target. Singkatnya, penggunaan strategi penerjemahan dalam subtitle diperlukan bersamaan dengan tipe humornya, dengan maksud untuk membuat humor dapat tersampaikan dengan baik. |

| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research aims to analyze types of humor and translation strategies that focused on subtitle translation in KEVIN HART: HART NOW? movie. The theories used in conducting this research are types of humor theory by Raphaelson-West (1989) and the theory of subtitling strategies translation by Tomaszkiewicz (1993). In using the qualitative method as the research design, this research is based on the two research questions which aim to; 1) find out the types of humor uttered in the movie, 2) find out the application of the translation strategies throughout the humor. This research is expected to give a new insight to humor and translation study. Based on the result of research, it is found that there are 31 humorous utterances. These 31 humorous utterances consist of 4 (13%) linguistic humor, 10 (32%) cultural humor, and 17 (55%) universal humor. The most dominant humor in this movie is universal humor that brings up the social environment issues such as; racism, couple relationship, household problems, and personal life. Meanwhile, linguistics humor is the least frequent. It is because Kevin just played with mild humor than wordplay and idiom in the linguistics term. The main character in this movie also delivered some critiques and reminders about the social condition in that situation through the humor. The application of subtitling strategies in translating humor utterance comprises of 5 strategies; 7 (23%) omission, 13 (42%) literal, 6 (19%) borrowing, 4 (13%) equivalence, and 1 (3%) generalization. After observing the use of strategy, the literal strategy was the most dominant inside this object. In specific, it is applied alongside universal humor. It is because Kevin brought the humor material using the general word, so that it can easily be understood by the audience/ viewer on a major scale. Otherwise, the fewest applied strategy was the generalization strategy. It was because there is only one humor containing an unfamiliar word that needs an adjustment in the target language on the cultural term. In short, the use of translation strategy in the subtitle is required along with types of humor to make the humor delivered in the right way. |
