Penguji: Mimien Aminah Sudja'ie, M.A. Kementerian Riset, Teknologi, dan Pendidikan Tinggi, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris, Program Studi Sastra Inggris, Purwokerto. Penelitian yang berjudul “Adaptasi Unsur Karakter dalam novel The Wizard of OZ dan film The Wizard of Oz” ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses penghapusan, penambahan dan variasi karakter elemen dari novel serta film“ The Wizard of OZ". Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menganalisis data. Sedangkan data primer diambil dari novel The Wizard of OZ karya Lyman Frank Baum yang diterbitkan pada tahun 1960. Teori adaptasi oleh Pamusuk Eneste digunakan untuk menganalisis karakter yang mengalami proses penghapusan, penambahan atau variasi dalam proses adaptasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aspek penghapusan, penambahan dan variasi karakter ditemukan dalam proses pembuatan film yang terjadi karena beberapa faktor. Data menunjukkan bahwa ada dua puluh satu karakter yang dihapus dalam proses adaptasi karena pentingnya elemen cerita, keterbatasan durasi film dan kurangnya teknologi. Penambahan karakter juga ditemukan dalam proses adaptasi yang terjadi karena dua aspek, yaitu, alasan logis sebagai bagian penting dalam sudut pandang film dan penambahan plot. Seangkan variasi karakter yang ditemukan dalam penelitian ini dapat dilihat dari properti atau kostum yang digunakan dalam film dan penampilan fisik tokoh. |

This research entitled “The Adaptation of Characters Element in The Wizard of OZ novel into movie The Wizard of Oz” is aimed at finding out how the deletion, addition and variation processes of the characters element from the novel as well as the movie “The Wizard of Oz”. This research uses qualitative method in analyzing the data, while the primary data were taken from Lyman Frank Baum’s novel The Wizard of OZ published in 1960. Pamusuk Eneste’s adaptation theory is used to analyze the characters that experience either deletion, addition or variation in the process of adaptation. The result shows that the deletion, addition and variation aspects of the characters are found in the movie-making processes due to some factors. The data shows that there are twenty one characters which are deleted in the process of adaptation due to the importance of the story elements, limitation of the movie duration and the lack of technology. The addition is also found in the process of adaptation which happen due to two aspects of the adaptation, namely, the logical reason as the important part in movie viewpoint and the additional plot. Whereas the variation which is found in this research can be seen through the properties or costumes and the physical appearance. |
