Penelitian ini berjudul Pragmatics study: Politeness Strategy on Donald Trump’s Speech in Recognizing Jerusalem as The Capital of Israel yang bertujuan untuk: (1). mengidentifikasi jenis – jenis strategi kesopanan, dan (2) mendeskripsikan situasi yang ada di dalam pidato Donald Trump. Tujuan utama dari strategi ini adalah untuk meminimalkan atau menghindari tindakan yang mengancam image seseorang. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori dari Brown dan Levinson untuk menganalisis jenis dari strategi kesopanan dan realisasi strategi kesopanan. Data dari penelitian ini adalah ucapan Donald Trump di dalam pidatonya tentang mengakui Yerusalem sebagai Ibukota Israel. Peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisis data dan menggunakan total sampling dalam mengambil data berdasarkan teori strategi kesopanan. Hasil menunjukan bahwa empat tipe strategi kesopanan ditemukan dalam pidato Donald Trump tentang mengakui Yerusalem sebagai Ibukota Israel yang berjumlah 33 data. Peneliti menemukan 6 data Strategi Off Record (18%), 16 data Strategi Bald on Record (49%), 4 data On Record with Redressive Positive Politeness (12%), dan 7 data On Record with Redressive Negative Politeness (21%). Kesimpulannya, Strategi Bald on Record menjadi jenis strategi yang paling sering digunakan Trump. Seorang pembicara menggunakan strategi ini untuk melakukan tindakan dengan maksud komunikatif yang sangat jelas. Selain itu, strategi yang lain digunakan untuk mendukung Strategi Bald on Record. |

This research entitled Pragmatics study: Politeness Strategy on Donald Trump’s Speech in Recognizing Jerusalem as The Capital of Israel aims at two purposes, which are: (1). identifying the types of politeness strategy, and (2). describing the kind of situation in Donald Trump speech. The main purpose of politeness strategy is to minimize or to evade the face-threatening act. This research applies Brown and Levinson’s theory dealing with politeness strategy types and the realization of politeness strategy. The data of this research is Donald Trump’s utterances on his speech about recognizing Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel. The researcher uses the descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data and uses total sampling to take the data based on the politeness strategy theory. The results show that four types of politeness strategy are found on Donald Trump’s speech in recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital that contained 33 data. The researcher finds 6 data of Off Record Strategy (18%), 16 data of On Record Bald Strategy (49%), 4 data of On Record with Redressive Positive Politeness (12%), and 7 data of On Record with Redressive Negative Politeness (21%). In conclusion, On Record Bald Strategy becomes the most frequent type that Trump used. A speaker used this strategy to do any act that uses very clear communicative intention. Furthermore, the other strategies are used to support the On Record Bald Strategy. |
