| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian yang berjudul “The Causes and Symptoms of Possession in Insidious Film” ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana kesurupan digambarkan dalam film Insidious melalui Cinematic Codes. Teori berhubungan dengan dua kasus kesurupan yaitu penyebab dan gejala kesurupan. Kedua kasus digambarkan dengan teori Nelmes tentang Cinematic Codes. Dalam menganalisis data, penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif yang menganalisis tentang kesurupan dan tidak melibatkan rumus statistik. Data utama dari penelitian ini diambil dari film Insidious. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukan dua temuan kasus yang berhubungan dengan kesurupan. Pertama, penyebab kesurupan dalam film Insidious ada dua yaitu, faktor yang disengaja dan faktor yang tidak disengaja.Faktor yang disengaja terjadi pada iblis ‘Red Face’ dan ‘Black Bride’ yang merasuki Josh dan Dalton setelah melakukan ‘astral body’. Sedangkan faktor yang tidak disengaja terjadi ketika Dalton yang sedang dalam keadaan koma dengan kondisi yang tidak sadar dan lemah iblis ‘Red Face’ merasukinya. Kasus kedua yaitu gejala kesurupan yang terjadi dalam film Insidious ada dua; kekerasan dan keserakahan. Gejala itu dialami oleh Dalton dan Josh. | Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research entitled “The Causes and Symptoms of Possession in Insidious Film” is aimed to analyze how possession is depicted in Insidious film through Cinematic Codes. The theory is related to the two cases of possession. They are the causes and the symptoms of possession. Both cases are depicted with Cinematic Codes Theory by Nelmes. This research uses qualitative method in analyzing the data because it discusses about the possession and it does not involve any statistical formula.The main data of this research is taken from Insidious film. The result of this research shows two finding cases related to the possession issue. First, the causes of possession in Insidious film are the deliberate factor and the unintentional factor. The deliberate factor occurs in the ‘Red Face’ demon and ‘Black Bride’ possessing Josh’s and Dalton’s body after performing an astral body. While unintentional factor occurs when Dalton is being possessed by the ‘Red Face’ demon. It makes him weak and makes the ‘Red Face’ demon possess Dalton’s body unintentionally. Second cases are the symptoms of possession, namely: violence and greed which were experienced by two characters, Dalton and Josh.
