| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian yang berjudul “A Peirce’s Semiotic Analysis On Educational Posters In Poster For Tomorrow Website.” bertujuan untuk: (1) mengidentifikasi simbol-simbol linguistik yang ditemukan di Poster Pendidikan berdasarkan teori Semiotika Pierce, (2) mengetahui proses semiosi pada Poster Pendidikan berdasarkan teori Semiotika Pierce. Data diambil dari proses mengunduh poster melalui akses internet. Metode deskriptif-kualitatif digunakan untuk menganalisa data penelitian yaitu 8 poster dari situs Poster for Tomorrow yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2011. Poster for Tomorrow adalah organisasi non-profit bertujuan untuk mengajak masyarakat dan menstimulasi debat tentang isu-isu dunia. Poster-poster tersebut diterbitkan saat kampanye Right to Education. Penelitian ini mengaplikasikan teori tanda Pierce (1931) dan teori konteks oleh Danesi (2004) untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Penelitian ini menggunakan simbol, representamen, obyek, dan interpretan pada obyek untuk menginterpretasikan makna pada poster dan pesan yang disampaikan. Dari penelitian, terdapat total 20 simbol, 20 representamen, 20 obyek, dan 20 interpretan. Variabel-variabel tersebut diinterpretasikan menggunakan sumber referensi dan pendekatan teruji. Setiap poster terdiri dari simbol linguistiknya sendiri. Terdapat total 20 simbol yang ditemukan sebagai objek penelitian. Simbol-simbol tersebut dijelaskan berdasarkan gambar yang didukung oleh teks. Simbol-simbolnya adalah sebuah buku dengan frasa " EDUCATION ACCESS FOR EVERYONE ", tangga, warna hitam sebagai latar belakang, warna putih pada kertas, penopang, pensil yang rusak, warna gading sebagai latar belakang, penjara dengan teks " EDUCATION " di bagian dalam penjara dan teks " MUST BE FREE” di luar penjara, setengah pensil dan setengah sumpit, warna abu-abu, warna putih di latar belakang teks, akar pohon yang membentuk tulisan " education”, pohon yang membentuk tulisan "change", sepatu yang lusuh, sertifikat pendidikan, buku, anak yang sedang bermain, warna oranye sebagai latar belakang yang dominan, anak yang sedang bermimpi, mimpi dengan teks " education is the way”. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa poster-poster tersebut ditunjukkan untuk mendukung kampanye Right to Education yang dilaksanakan oleh Poster for Tomorrow untuk mempromosikan akses pendidikan yang sama rata dan betapa pentingnya pendidikan. Kedua, pengarang seringkali mengubungkan permasalahan pada negara mereka untuk menyampaikan pesan pada poster. Ada beberapa rekomendasi untuk peneliti lain yang tertarik untuk melakukan penelitian semacam ini. Pertama, mereka dapat menggunakan teori semiotik lainnya. Kedua, mereka dapat melakukan pendekatan linguistik lain seperti analisis wacana, semantik, morfologi, dan lain-lain. Selain itu, mereka dapat menggunakan objek lain untuk menganalisis seperti buku, iklan, lirik lagu, logo perusahaan, dan sebagainya.

Inggris) | This research entitled “A Peirce’s Semiotic Analysis On Educational Posters In Poster For Tomorrow Website” aims to: (1) identify the linguistic symbols found in Educational Poster based on Peirce’s semiotic theory, (2) know the semiosis process in the Educational Poster based on Peirce’s semiotic theory. The data are retrieved from downloading the poster through internet access. I use descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data of the research which consist of 8 posters from Poster for Tomorrow website published in 2011. Poster for Tomorrow is a non-profit organization aims to encourage people and stimulate debate on world issues. These posters are published during Right to Education campaign. This research applies Pierce’s (1931) theory of sign and Danesi’s (2004) theory of context to answer the research questions. This research utilizes the symbol, representamen, and interpretant on the object to interpret the meaning of the poster and the message delivered. The result of the research shows that there are 20 symbols followed by 20 representamen, 20 objects, and 20 interpretant in total. These variables are intepreted using reliable source and approach. Each poster contains its own linguistic symbol. There are total of 20 symbols found in the object of the research. The symbols are construed of pictures supported by text. The symbols are a book with the phrase “EDUCATION ACCESS FOR EVERYONE”, the stairs, the black color as the background, the white color in the paper, a crutch, a broken pencil, the ivory color as the background, the jail with the text “EDUCATION” in the inside of the jail and the text “MUST BE FREE” in the outside of the jail, half pencil and half chopstick, the gray color, the white color in the background of the text, root of a tree “education”, tree “change”, a tattered shoe, educational certificate, a book, playing child, the orange color as the dominant background, dreaming child, the dream with the text “education is the way”. The results lead to a conclusion that the posters are intended to support Right to Education campaign held by Poster for Tomorrow to promote equal access to education and how important education is. Second, author often linked the issue within their country to deliver the message of the poster. There are some recommendations for other researchers who are interested in conducting this kind of research. First, they can use other semiotic theory. Second, they can conduct other linguistic approaches such as discourse analysis, semantics, morphology, etcetera. In addition, they can use other objects to analyze like books, advertisements, song lyrics, logo of companies, etcetera. |
