| Judul Artikel | Women’s Responses on Voyeurism Issue Depicted in Elizabeth Chauncey’s “Accidental Voyeur”: A Reader Response Study |
| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian yang berjudul “Women’s Responses on Voyeurism Issue Depicted in Elizabeth Chauncey’s “Accidental Voyeur”: A Reader Response Study” bertujuan untuk mencari tahu respon para wanita terhadap isu voyeurisme yang tergambar pada “Accidental Voyeur” karya Elizabeth Chauncey dengan menggunakan teori resepsi subjectivisme dari Bleich. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Selain itu, ada beberapa langkah yang dilakukan dalam menganalisis data. Pertama, menyebarkan kuisioner sebelum dan setelah membaca teks kepada para responden. Kedua, melakukan sesi wawancara untuk mendapatkan informasi yang lebih mendalam. Ketiga, data dipilah untuk mendapatkan analisa yang baik. Terakhir, menyimpulkan analisa yang telah diperoleh. Oleh karena itu, pembahasan dalam penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua bagian utama. Bagian pertama berisi respon para reponden tetang isu voyeurisme dalam cerita, sedangkan yang kedua berisi respon mereka sebagai bagian dari masyarakat yang lebih fokus pada pelaku, apakah menurut mereka hal itu normal dan diterima dalam masyarakat atau sebaliknya. Hasil menunjukkan kebanyakan dari responden mengatakan bahwa voyeurisme bertentangan dengan aturan dan norma di mana mereka berasal. Aksi mengintip kegiatan seksual orang lain melanggar norma, karena mengganggu privasi orang lain. Kemudian, berkaitan dengan pelaku voyeurism khususnya pelaku wanita, kebanyakan dari reponden menyatakan bahwa tidak normal untuk seorang perempuan menjadi pelaku voyeurism, karena para responden hanya mengetahui kasus-kasus voyeurism yang dilakukan oleh laki-laki saja. Kemudian, para responden sepakat bahwa pelaku voyeurime tidak akan diterima dalam masyarakat karena menurut mereka apa yang dilakukan oleh para pelaku sangat mengganggu privasi banyak orang dan masih dianggap tabu. | Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research entitled “Women’s Responses on Voyeurism Issue Depicted in Elizabeth Chauncey’s “Accidental Voyeur”: A Reader Response Study” aims to figure out women’s responses on voyeurism issue depicted in Chauncey’s “Accidental Voyeur” by using Bleich’s subjectivism reader response. This research uses qualitative method. Moreover, there are some steps in analyzing the data. First, distributing pre and post reading questionnaire to the respondents. Second, performing an interview section to get deeper information. Third, reducing the data in order to achieve a good analysis. Finally, concluding the analysis. Accordingly, the discussion of this study is divided into two main parts. The first part is the respondent’s responses toward the issue in the story, whereas the second part is their responses as the part of the society which mainly focuses on the voyeurs whether they see them normal and accepted in the society or the other way around. The result shows most of the respondents say that voyeurism is against the rules and norms of their origin. The act of peeping on other people’s sexual activity violates the norms, since it breaks other people’s privacy. Thus, dealing with voyeurs especially women voyeurs, the respondents mostly stated that it is not normal for women to be voyeur, for they only heard about voyeurism cases which are commited by men. Subsequently, the respondents agree that voyeurs will not be accepted in the society as they think what voyeurs do highly violates people’s privacy and is still considered as taboo.
