| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini berjudul “Gender Differences in Verbal Filler Distribution by Beauty and the Beast Main Cast Interview”. Penelitian ini berfokus pada bagaimana perbedaan gender dan aspek-aspek sosial mempengaruhi distribusi verbal filler di interview pemeran utama Beauty and the Beast. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk 1) menemukan verbal filler; 2) menjelaskan dan membandingkan distribusi verbal filler; 3) menjelaskan pengaruh aspek sosial dan perbedaan gender dalam distribusi verbal filler. Untuk mendapatkan hasil dari analisis tersebut pendekatan melalui sosio-pragmatik digunakan pada 227 data verbal filler. Penelitian ini menggunakan purposive sampling dalam pengumpulan data serta mengelompokkan dan mengambil kesimpulan untuk menemukan perbedaan gender sebagai hasil akhir penelitian. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan 227 verbal filler dalam interview tersebut. Terdapat verbal filler umm (155 kali), uhh (42 kali), dan you know (30 kali). Verbal filler tersebut dikelompokkan ke dalam empat jenis makna yaitu Divided Attention, Nervous, Collect Thought or Infrequent Words, dan Express Uncertainty. Dalam analisis tersebut, Emma Watson yang mewakili gender wanita menghasilkan sebanyak 75,3% verbal filler. Sementara itu, Dan Stevens sebagai perwakilan gender pria menghasilkan sebanyak 24,7% verbal filler. Selain itu, terdapat factor-faktor sosial berdasarkan teori S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G dari Hymes dan dimensi sosial berdasarkan teori milik Holmes yang mempengaruhi ujaran kedua tokoh tersebut. Diperoleh juga bahwa Emma Watson cenderung lebih emosional, berbicara lebih banyak mengenai perasaan pribadinya dan berbicara lebih hati-hati dalam ujarannya dibandingkan dengan Dan Stevens. Perbedaan gender dan aspek-aspek sosial inilah yang mempengaruhi distribusi verbal filler yang dihasilkan oleh pemeran utama Beauty and the Beast di dalam interview. |

| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research is entitled “Gender Differences in Verbal Filler Distribution by Beauty and the Beast Main Cast Interview”. It focuses on how gender differences and social aspects affect verbal filler distribution in the Beauty and the Beast main cast interviews. Using qualitative method, this research aims 1) to find the verbal fillers; 2) to explain and compare the distribution of verbal fillers; 3) to explain the effect of social aspects and gender differences on verbal filler distribution. To get the result of the analysis, socio-pragmatic approach is used on 227 data. Using purposive sampling as the data collection, the clustering and inferring data are conducted in order to find the gender differences as the final result. Based on the result of the research, there are 227 verbal fillers found from the interviews. There are umm (155 times), uhh (42 times), and you know (30 times). It is clustered into four types of meaning namely Divided Attention, Nervous, Collect Thought or Infrequent Words, and Express Uncertainty. From the analysis Emma Watson who represents gender of woman produces 75,3% of verbal filler. Meanwhile Dan Stevens who represents gender of man only produces 24,7% of verbal filler. Besides, there are social factors based on Hymes’ S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G theory and Holmes’ social dimension theory which influence both of them in their speech. It is also found that Emma Watson is more emotional, talks more about her personal feeling and speaks carefully in her speech rather than Dan Stevens. These are the gender differences and social aspects which affect the distribution of verbal filler by Beauty and the Beast main cast in the interviews. |
