| Judul Artikel | An Analysis of Translation Strategy of Proper Nouns in The Saga of Darren Shan: Son's Destiny Novel and The Translator's Ideology |
| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian ini berjudul “An Analysis of Translation Strategy of Proper Nouns in The Saga of Darren Shan: Sons of Destiny Novel and The Translator’s Ideology”. Penelitian ini berfokus pada cara penerjemahan proper noun dan ideologi penerjemahan yang diterapkan. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk 1) menemukan kategori proper noun yang ada dalam novel tersebut, 2) menjelaskan bagaimana proper noun tersebut diterjemahkan ke bahasa sasaran, dan 3) menjelaskan ideologi penerjemahan yang digunakan dalam penerjemahan proper noun tersebut. Untuk mendapatkan hasil dari analisis tersebut, teori strategi penerjemahan E. Davies (2003) diterapkan pada 124 proper noun dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode total sampling dengan mengkategorikan keseluruhan data ke dalam tipe dan strateginya untuk menemukan ideologi penerjemah sebagai hasil akhirnya. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, proper noun dalam novel ini dapat dikelompokkan ke dalam 3 kategori yaitu Nama Orang (92), Nama Tempat (15), dan Nama Benda (17). Proper noun tersebut diterjemahkan menggunakan 6 strategi yaitu Preservation, Addition, Globalization, Localization, Transformation dan Creation. Dua strategi pertama, yang mengindikasikan ideologi Foreignisasi, digunakan pada 87% jumlah proper noun. Sedangkan strategi lainnya, yang mengindikasikan Domestikasi, digunakan pada 12.9% jumlah proper noun. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ideology penerjemah disini adalah Foreignisasi karena Preservation dan Addition (penambahan informasi pada proper noun) lebih dominan digunakan daripada strategi lainnya. Keputusan penerjemah memilih Foreignisasi tampaknya dipengaruhi oleh karakteristik genre novel, yaitu keunikan plot, tokoh, dan setting yang membuat genre ini unik dan menarik. Pemilihan Foreignisasi juga bertujuan untuk memperkuat nuansa negara asal bahasa sumber agar para pembaca dapat begitu menikmati cerita novel tersebut. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research is entitled “An Analysis of Translation Strategy of Proper Nouns in The Saga of Darren Shan: Sons of Destiny Novel and The Translator’s Ideology”. It focuses on how proper nouns in the novel are translated and the translation ideology applied. Using qualitative method, this research aims 1) to find out the proper nouns category in the novel; 2) to describe how the proper nouns are translated to the target language; and 3) to explain the translation ideology in translating the proper nouns. To get the result of the analysis, E. Davies (2003)’s translation strategies theory is used on 124 proper nouns data. Using total sampling method as the data collection, the type and strategy categorization are conducted to whole data in order to find out the translator’s ideology as the final result. Based on the result of the research, it can be seen that the proper nouns in this novel can be grouped into three categories namely Name of Person (92), Name of Place (15), and Name of Thing (17). They are translated using 6 of 7 categories that are Preservation, Addition, Globalization, Localization, Transformation and Creation. The first two strategies indicating Foreignization ideology, are employed at 87% of proper nouns. Meanwhile, the other strategies indicating Domestication, are employed at 12.9% of proper nouns. To conclude, the translator’s ideology is Foreignization since the Preservation and Addition, a strategy with additional information of the proper noun, are more frequently used than other strategies in the proper nouns translation. The translator’s decision to apply Foreignization is apparently influenced by the genre characteristics such as the novel’s uncommon plot, characters and setting that make this genre unique and interesting. Moreover, it also aims to emphasize the country’s atmosphere of SL for the target readers so that they can deeply wander in the story. |
