| Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia) | Penelitian yang berjudul “Deconstruction of Witch Image in Postmodern England as Depicted in Paulo Coelho’s the Witch of Portobello (2007)” ini menggunakan novel Paulo Coelho yang berjudul the Witch of Portobello sebagai objek kajian. Secara umum, novel tersebut menceritakan tentang perjalanan seorang penyihir bernama Athena dalam memenuhi misi-misinya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan gambaran penyihir yang didekonstruksi pada postmodern Inggris seperti yang digambarkan pada karakter Athena. Untuk menemukan gambar penyihir yang didekonstruksi, penelitian ini menggunakan teori dekonstruksi dari Derrida. Dekonstruksi adalah sebuah konsep kritis untuk melihat dan menganalisis arti yang lebih dalam dari sebuah teks tanpa mengubah esensi makna sesungguhnya. Dekonstruksi juga memberikan ruang untuk hal yang hilang dan terlupakan dari sebuah teks yang belum disadari. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Sedangkan langkah-langkah analisis pada penelitian ini adalah dengan membaca novel, menemukan teori, menemukan masalah atau topik di novel, mengatur, menganalisis dan menyimpulkakn data. Gambaran penyihir Athena didekonstruksi dari imej stereotip penyihir yang sudah secara umum diketahui seperti jahat, kasar, pendendam dan brutal. Hasil dari dekonstruksi gambaran penyihir pada Athena didapatkan melalui misi dan karakter Athena. Gambaran yang didekonstruksi dari misi Athena yaitu memiliki seorang anak, mempelajari kaligrafi dan menemukan penerimaan setelah dibuang. Dari karakter Athena dapat ditemukan bahwa ia adalah seorang penolong dan wanita bijak yang merupakan dekonstruksi dari karakter seorang penyihir. |
| Abtrak (Bhs. Inggris) | This research entitled “Deconstruction of Witch Image in Postmodern England as Depicted in Paulo Coelho’s the Witch of Portobello (2007)”. This research uses the novel of Paulo Coelho entitled the Witch of Portobello. Generally, the story of novel tells about the journey of a witch’s life named Athena in fulfilling her missions. The purpose of the research is to find out the deconstructed witch image in postmodern England as depicted in Athena’s characterization. To figure out the deconstructed witch image, this research uses deconstruction theory by Derrida as the main theory. Deconstruction is a critical concept to see and analyze deeper meaning of a text without destroying its real essence of meaning. Also, deconstruction gives a space to what is missing and forgotten of a text that has not been realized. The research method used in this research is qualitative method. The method of analysis in this research are reading the novel, finding the theories, finding the problems or topics in the novel, arranging, analyzing and concluding the data. Athena’s witch image is deconstructed from the evil stereotype image of a witch that has been known generally such as vicious, cruel, vengeful and brutal. The results of the deconstructed witch image in Athena can be found through her missions and her characterizations. The deconstructed images from Athena’s missions are having a baby, learning calligraphy, and finding acceptance after being abandoned. From Athena’s characterizations can be found that she was a helper and a wise woman |
