Penelitian ini berjudul "Analisis Euphemisme dalam The Big Bang Theory TV Series Seri 1 dari Episode 1-10" berfokus pada bagaimana ekspresi eufemisme digunakan dan terjadi pada The Big Bang Theory TV Series Seri 1 dari Episode 1-10. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk 2 tujuan yaitu: (1) Mengidentifikasi jenis ekspresi eufemisme yang ditemukan di The Big Bang TV Series Seri 1 dari Episode 1-10 (2) untuk mengidentifikasi strategi penyampaian eufemisme yang digunakan dalam Seri TV. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa (1) enam jenis eufemisme menurut Allan dan Burridge's Theory (2012) diimplementasikan dalam keseluruhan data. Mereka adalah 26 ekspresi protective euphemism, 21 ungkapan underhand euphemism, 13 ungkapan uplifting euphemism, 19 ungkapan provocative euphemism, 13 ungkapan cohesive euphemism, dan 17 ungkapan ludic euphemism. (2) ketiga strategi sesuai teori Allan dan Burridge (2012) diimplementasikan dalam ungkapan eufemisme yang ditemukan di The Big Bang TV Series Seri 1 dari Episode 1-10. Ada 72 ungkapan eufemisme yang menggunakan strategi analogi, 25 ungkapan eufemisme yang menggunakan strategi distorsi, dan 12 ungkapan eufemisme dengan menggunakan strategi pinjaman. Berdasarkan hasil tipe eufemisme, eufemisme pelindung adalah tipe yang paling dominan yang muncul pada The Big Bang Theory TV Series Season 1 dari Episode 1-10. Hal ini terjadi karena peran eufemisme itu sendiri yang berfungsi untuk melindungi pembicara, pendengar maupun pihak ketiga dari rasa tersinggung. Hal ini juga terkait dengan pentingnya kesopanan itu sendiri dalam komunikasi masyarakat umum yang mampu menciptakan ikatan antara pembicara dan pendengar dengan baik. Hasil strategi eufemisme menunjukkan bahwa strategi analogi adalah tipe strategi yang paling dominan dalam menyampaikan ungkapan eufemisme. Fenomena ini terjadi karena aplikasi praktis dari strategi analogi yang cenderung sangat mudah dan juga sangat efektif. Orang cenderung menggunakan ungkapan yang pertama kali muncul untuk mengganti ekspresi yang tidak diinginkan daripada mengambil banyak waktu untuk memikirkan penggantian terbaik, dan analogi adalah strategi yang biasanya muncul pertama kali di pikiran orang. |

This Research, entitled “An Analysis of Euphemisms in Big Bang Theory TV Series Season 1 from Episode 1-10”, focuses on how euphemism expression is used and occured in The Big Bang TV Series Season 1 from Episode 1-10. This research, using descriptive qualitative method, is aimed for 2 purposes which are: (1) to identify the type of euphemism expressions found in The Big Bang TV Series Season 1 from Episode 1-10 and (2) to identify the strategy of delivering euphemism used in the TV Series. The result shows that all six types of euphemism according to Allan and Burridge’s Theory (2012) are implemented in the whole data. They are 26 expressions of protective euphemism, 21 expressions of underhand euphemism, 13 expressions of uplifting euphemism, 19 expressions of provocative euphemism, 13 expressions of cohesive euphemism, and 17 expressions of ludic euphemism. Then all three strategies according to Allan and Burridge’s theory (2012) are implemented in euphemism expressions found in The Big Bang TV Series Season 1 from Episode 1-10. There are 72 euphemism expressions using the analogy strategy, 25 euphemisms expressions using the distortion strategy, and 12 euphemism expressions using the borrowing strategy. Based on the result of euphemism type, the protective euphemism is the most dominant type that occur in The Big Bang Theory TV Series Season 1 from Episode 1-10. This occurred because of the euphemism role itself which function is to protect the speaker, the hearer or some third party from being offended. This also related with the importance of politeness itself general people’s communication which is able to create bond between the speaker and the hearer excellently. The result of the euphemism strategy shows that the analogy strategy is the most dominant type of strategy in delivering the euphemism expressions. This phenomenon occurred because of the practical application of analogy which tend to be very easy and also very effective. People tend to use the expressions that first come up in mind to replace the undesired expression rather than taking much time in thinking about the best replacement, and analogy is the strategy that first come up in people’s mind. |
